The idea behind Heat Guard is to protect children or pets
left in a car. Injury or death caused by abandonment in a hot car is always a
sad story to hear on the news, and I personally liked the idea behind the
technology. Frankly, I understand nothing about technology or specific aspects
of electronics, so when the group explained how the special car seat would work
on a technical basis I really didn’t understand. But I do understand the
concept of it which means the most to me. The group that created heat guard
wanted a car seat device that would alert parents through their phone when they
left a child or animal in the car and it senses the temperatures inside the
vehicle. The group also included a facial recognition camera to help detect
when there is a living being trapped. The only slight issue with the product is
I do not understand how it could be cheap and affordable with its extensive use
of technological innovation. The group said that each part was only so much and
would cost a total of about $150 but I don’t see how that is possible. I feel
like a car seat of this caliber would be at least $200+. That also brings me to
the issue of it being a car seat and such an expensive piece of equipment for
such a short period of time in a child’s life. If the parent just made sure
they had their kid when they left the car, then that would save them so much
money and heartache.
Also we had a debate in class
whether leaving children and pets in a hot car was a moral issue, and it was
very interesting. At first I figured this for sure was a moral issue because it
seems to happen often but the stats presented by the group said otherwise. You
hear about the warnings all the time on the news but there are only a handful
of instances where children actually die from being left in the car. This doesn’t
dismiss those that have been injured while trapped or just the horrendous heat
some may endure, but not as many parents are forgetful or irresponsible as we
claim. I know I seems to be talking down to this product but even if few, these
events do happen and I really liked the idea of Heat Guard.

Food waste
The group that presented the idea about not wasting idea was overall somewhat ok. When I heard about the whole thing, I was basically thinking "oh well they are sending expired food to the hungry" which is not a good idea. I was ok but I don't think it will actually work by just scanning like how will you get the info from the groceries onto the app. I know you do by the receipt but how would you exactly know the true expiration. Everybody stores their goods differently. And with Uber drivers, like Dr. J said, it would not work because they would want to get paid more and besides if one person on a street block decides to donate food but nobody else in the block does then the Uber will just waste gas to get some pounds of food and if they just drive around the block and wait for other people to donate, well that sounds like wasting time. I like how the group made me aware about how much the U.S. wastes food but sending it off to food banks, just a few days before expiring doesn't go well. Overall it was ok and what Skyler said about using non-perishable foods instead of produce will actually help more.

cars now a days have Bluetooth so those who have it can benefit but what about
those who don’t have it? What if they want this devise because maybe they or
someone they know suffers from an alcohol problem? Now would they have to buy a
whole new car or pay even more money in order to get it installed?
Another
problem can be how everytime you want to start your car you need to take this
test. What if I am running late somewhere or have an emergency? I have to do
this test every single time then? I know this is safety and its just like
putting you get annoyed of notifications from an app or having to do things for
it you will most likely delete it.on your seatbelt but I also feel like the

Global poverty
It is unfortunate that so much poverty still exists today. You would expect that since the years go buy and we all become more aware of this issue, more people would help. Resulting in a decrease in poverty. But now sadly there is much more important--according to the government-- then worrying about whether others will have food or a place to stay today. It can be as simple as each person donating just one dollar. With the large population we have in the United States these dollars could add up quickly. Also, do you recognize how much food a day we waste? Especially restaurants. Seriously how hard would it be to donate a little bit of that. I dislike how restaurants are so selfish in that situation; they would much rather throw the food away than give it to a good cause.
I like how this website the group created, recognizes this issue and focuses on places around the word instead of focusing on a specific place. I like the way they organized the website especially liked the idea of them including a link tot different organizations that were official and safe for someone to choose to donate to.

Mentality Reality
Mentality Reality is probably one of the best presentations I have seen. Considering myself, I have anxiety/depression. I enjoy every single thing about it. I myself enjoying drawing, listening to music and playing games. The group was very thorough with and did a good job on explaining their mission and what things you could do to help. I like how they explained the different types of mental issues and that people with these problems are not alone in life. I also enjoyed that even some group members even did videos of themselves drawing/playing an instrument and put it on the website. Let's all admit it, the dude that was playing the electric guitar was pretty cool! This was a simple but detailed awesome project that was not too much nor too simple.

SafeStreet Review
In my personal opinion, I feel like SafeStreet was one of the best projects. It was very well thought and the presentation was very thorough. The speaker of the project was very precise with his answers. I really enjoyed listening to the group answer the questions and take the advice of their fellow students seriously. The idea itself was so basic, it made sense. A small test to take before you drive would eventually save someone's life and it would not take up too much time. While the different tests could vary so that someone could not just memorize the results of the tests, the original tests, I feel like, could also work. There are some improvements that could help the app physically so it would not look so basic. For example, a different color scheme would attract more people to the app. Even though we do not like admitting it, we do often go for the prettier apps. Something else could be a way to connect it to a car that does not have Bluetooth. Students often drive hand me down cars that do not have Bluetooth or anything really like that. But they may still want to be able to use the app. Since the idea of the app is very good, I would hope that people without Bluetooth could be able to use it. I also really enjoyed the actual powerpoint. It was very informative and very well done. Safestreet would be something super easy to include in your everyday schedule. It could be as easy as just putting on your seatbelt. We could make it a habit to where it does not have to act like a chore. The speaker was also very persuasive and the overall group was very helpful in answering the questions. All in all, this was my favorite project. I know being the first group to present in a class could be nerve-wracking but this group handled it with ease.
Be Right Back
When Be Right Back starts you see a married couple, Ash and Martha, on their way home. They are at a gas station getting gas and something to drink. While he is playing on his phone his wife is outside of the car carrying hot coffee. After he helps her with the coffees she tells him that he should put his phone into the glove compartment so that he doesn't get distracted while driving.
The next day Ash says that he has to bring the car back and asks if Martha wants to go with him. Martha tells him that she has a lot of work that she has to do and he leaves. Later that night she is worrying about where he is because he should of been back by then .Then she sees the police lights and goes to the door when she opens it the police tell her that Ash has died. At the Ash's funeral a girl tells her that they have a way that she can talk to Ash again. She tells the girl to stop talking.
Later on she finds out she is pregnant. Also that the girl from the funeral signed her up for the program and starts getting texts from it claiming to be Ash. At first she is really hesitant and doesn't want to respond to it, but then she starts talking to it. During this time she notices that she is starting to enjoy talking to Ash 2. She tells him that she wants to hear his voice. He then tells her that they can talk on the phone if she wants to. Ash 2 then starts to go through all of the video of Ash so that he can sound like him. When he is done he calls her and she is shocked how much Ash 2 actually sounds like Ash. One day when she is at the hospital she is talking to Ash 2 an accidentally drops her phone and breaks it. She begins to freak out and picks up another phone on her way home. Once she puts it together she talks to Ash 2 again and he tells her that just because she broke the phone didn't mean that he was gone. He also mentions that there is a new upgrade that cost more money.
She order everything that she is told to. Once it gets there he tells her what all she has to do. After she has done everything she turns out the light and leaves the bathroom. A little while later a robot that looks exactly like Ash comes done. She can't believe how much he looks like Ash. At first she seems to be stand offish of Ash 2, but then she start to warm up to him. Later on when they are in bed together she tells Ash 2 that the real Ash had a mole. Ash 2 then uses his programing to add a mole to his body as well. For a little while she enjoyed having Ash 2 around, butt then she started to notice all of the little things that where different between Ash and Ash 2.
One day she brings Ash 2 to a cliff and tells him that if Ash was there he would have already figured out what was going on. Ash 2 doesn't really seem to understand what is going on. She tells Ash 2 to jump off of the cliff. He responds by asking he if it is really what she wants in which she tells him that the real Ash would be crying and begging if he was actually there. After she says that Ash 2 starts crying and begging her not to make him do it. Martha tells him that he isn't being fair.
Skip multiple years in the future. Martha and her daughter are living in the same house. Her daughter asks if she can go up to the attic. Martha seems to want to say no at first, but her daughter talks her in to letting her go up. When her daughter goes into the attic Ash 2 is up there. At the end her daughter is calling for her to come up into the attic with her and Ash 2.
One day robots may be used like this. For people who have lost a love one. I am not sure if I would want a reminder of a loved one right in front of me all of the time. That would just remind me that they are gone. I'm sure there are some people that would like this though. Maybe it could help them to cope with what they are going through.

PTS-Talk
Friday’s presentation was PTS-Talk which they described as a
website designed to help people suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
This presentation was unique to the others because it included an emotional
aspect. Each of the presenters had personally witnessed the effects of PTSD
which made the website more than just a project for them but instead something
that they could see making a positive impact. You could see the connection and
just how important it was for them in the way they presented. I did not notice
them reading off slides or notecards which was very impressive. They were also
very prepared to answer any questions thrown at them. They knew the exact
direction that they wanted to take this website and knew step by step how they
were going to get there. I think that the way they designed the website was
very intelligent and made sense. Creating different forums with different
purposes allows the users to get more personalized help which is unique to
PTS-Talk. The one thing that I am worried about, which Dr. Johnson pointed out,
is internet trolls. They are everywhere and are just looking to cause trouble,
especially with sensitive subjects like this. Unfortunately, I don’t have a
solution, if only you could wish them away. It would be terrible if victims
went to the site to get help and were welcomed by negativity or insults. Someone
who specializes in website design may have ways to reduce it but I am not sure
what else to do. I do wish that the group had gone into more detail on the
profile page. For example, it looks like users can follow each other and I just
wonder what that does. Do they get emails when someone they follow posts
something? Or what is the point of following each other? In conclusion, this
presentation and project was very thoughtful and original. I was seriously
impressed that the group tackled such a sensitive subject and did so well. Great
job!
Global Help review
As soon as we got back from Thanksgiving break on Monday the 27th the first group presented on their project titled Global Help. The basic summary of this project is essentially they created a website that links many charities into one website so that their users could have one central location in order to find a charity they would like to support. The website would not link any charities that had not been inspected and had a background check in order to validate that the charities are indeed that, charities. Additionally, the website emphasizes five countries that they chose to support most thoroughly.
First and foremost, congratulations need to be given to this group for the effort they showed. Presenting after a long break, a break where almost no one would be able to meet to coordinate, is massively difficult. Furthermore, the week prior to Thanksgiving is always flooded with tests and projects; hence, to put forth the effort that group one did is worthy of praise.
Now all this is not to say that their were not some flaws with the presentation itself. The website certainly could have used some formatting attention. A lot of the photos were cropped off so that the whole image was not available for viewing. Also, I noticed that a few charities were duplicated for separate nations. Additionally, some extra practice on which presenter would address which issue would have helped them along more. There seemed to be some miscommunication happening on who would address which nation and it disrupted the flow of the presentation. This issue also caused certain presenters to have to speak much longer than their partners in order to maintain the flow of the presentation.
Nonetheless, the project itself is a good idea and definitely has potential. Yet, it would need to be developed further under less strenuous conditions than group one faced in order to reach its' full potential of a hub for directions to helping those around the world.

Heat Guard review
On Wednesday November 29th, the second group in the 12 o'clock section of Philosophy presented their project titled Heat Guard. Their project generally consisted of a technological invention that will help prevent the unnecessary death of children in severely heated vehicles. The initial prototype would be a car seat that could blu tooth connect to the driver's phone or car itself and notify the driver if the temperature became too hot within the vehicle. Then eventually the prototype could evolve into a product that would be able to directly connect to the vehicle itself; of course, this would take place with the progression of the technology of vehicles themselves.
Though I very much enjoyed the presentation and thought the concept itself was well thought out and interesting, I did have a few minor concerns. First, how would the seat know if a child was in the vehicle? If the temperature was rising in the vehicle but there was no child, would the car alarm still go off or would your phone still receive alerts? I am sure this is a relatively simple fix; nonetheless, I am not sure this issue was addressed during the presentation and I was curious about it.
Lastly, before I state any criticism, please allow me to re emphasize that I thought the presentation was well put together and that each presenter presented well and with enthusiasm. Overall, a great presentation! Nonetheless, my concern or rather my question is how does this project address a moral issue? Surely the amount of parents who intentionally leave their children in hot vehicles is small; furthermore, wouldn't the invention be quite useless to these parents since they put the children in the vehicle in the first place? Once more, I think the idea itself is a great one, I simply just do not see how this invention addresses a moral issue that society is struggling with. Perhaps a little more explaining or a statement would help clear this question of mine. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if this invention comes around in our lifetimes.

Global Help
Throughout our lives, many different things can happen across the world ranging from hunger to war to even social injustice. Many times groups of individuals create organizations or groups in order to attend to such issues through non profit or profit. These groups will usually create food drives, or donation systems to assist the ones in need of this help. Through a simple and straightforward presentation, a group of students made a website that gathered these organizations to allow people to access a single website that bears all entrances to them in easy access. Surprisingly enough, not any people go out of their way in order to help others in need specifically that they might say it is otherwise not their problem or some other excuse. This website was made to attract the people who are reluctant to join and become in someway active. It is an easy access website allowing more comfortable use which can attract users. Donations are also an added feature so that they can, even at least, support other assistive organizations. This is to allow people to be more involved in the issues of the world giving them ways to help. There were specific starting places on their website in way of which people can begin to help and or join in the effort of doing so.
In all, the group explained thoroughly what they were capable of doing and acting upon. The presentation was clear and understood and for something like this to exist can easily build more bonds between people and their overall humanity. The more we stand together the less reason we have to fight or cause harm to each other. And the less struggle we have to suffer.
