Let's Defrost

    The Defrost app is such a way to inform immigrants with the legal information they need to know. With everything going on in society today, immigrants have what seems like a target on their forehead. Although I have friends who are not yet U.S citizens, I had no idea what the deportation process consisted of. I didn't even know about the cost or time it takes in order to become a citizen. With this app, there are many ways a person can get in touch with a lawyer, or just know the outline basis of becoming a citizen.
     Another thing I liked most about this app was the section with news and updates. This section is really important because like said before, there are many biased websites and posts that may come across as true, but do not portray what is actually happening in the world for those who are undocumented. With this app, they can find factual events to not only be aware of, but also attend. Today, I was informed about the "Day Without Immigrants" march that is taking place downtown. This would've been a great event to include in the upcoming events section. For those who would like to get involved and help the immigrants in Tennessee, this would've been a great to spread the word.
The most important thing to take from this app is the "Your Rights" section. Since this is an app, it makes it easier to open from a cellular device just incase they are stopped by the police. This section tells in specific details what to do in case of this confrontation with the law. Many of those who are illegal do not know they have rights even though they are not citizens. Many of them think that they have to obey what the cop or ICE officer says.
    Since this app is not particular for just Hispanics but for all immigrants, I would just wonder if this app will be in different languages and not just in English? It would be helpful to include those who are not native English speakers. Also, with the organization such as Latino Memphis, I understand this is important for those of Hispanic decent, but what about the organizations of those immigrants who are not from a Hispanic decent. I think it would be helpful to include other organizations that will be helpful to their needs. Adding material that will be beneficial for all instead of just Hispanics/latinos would make those immigrants feel as if they are included as well.

Defrosting immigration issues.

     The presentation was a great one. It was very formal and informative. The issue the group chose was a very significant one (perhaps one of the most important ones in our society). They did a really good job of bringing such a problem to the attention of everyone (or as many as possible). It was also very relatable to people, especially immigrants or those hate Trump. The information was organized in a way that it was easy to follow at all times. One of the thing I liked most about the presentation was that the group avoided assuming things. For example, they explained what deportation was and how the process works instead of assuming anyone who read would know what they were talking about from the get-go. Also, they explained to audience how their topic was societal and/or moral issue instead of thinking the audience would infer it from the other aspects of the presentation.             
     Another thing I really liked about the presentation was the quote that came at the beginning. For me, it was easy to make the connection between the quote and actual situation at hand; life is only rich and full for actual citizens, and never for the illegals of the country After their problem and the facts of it were clearly explained, they told the details of their app, the relations of the app to the problem, and, most importantly, how the app would solve their problem.
     Now for the app. I loved the app. Keeping people informed about what is going on around is an important step to solving the problem. In addition, it was a great to have a page that was dedicated to letting people know what their rights are, and what they should do or say (or not do and say) in case of peril. They also followed up by having a page designed to help people find a lawyer who will help them through their case if they find themselves in a tight spot with ICE (or any other law enforcement). Explaining how citizenship worked was also a good call. The only clarification I needed was how they would go about acquiring lawyers to help people with their legal binds.
Overall, the presentation and the idea was a solid one. They tried to account for as many things as possible and mad little (if any) assumptions at all. If this app became real, I think it would be game changing for our society (hopefully our country).

Defrost the ICE app review

The first note I want to make on the Defrost app presentation is the name. It is superb. I love it. Second, the way the information was presented explaining the reasoning for the app was done very effectively and did a great job in grabbing the audience's attention. Each slide contained information to the reasoning behind the overall purpose of the app. The design of the app referring to the different sections you could click on were specific and the user would not have any trouble understanding which one they should click on to find an answer to their issue. The idea for a news and video section is a great aspect to include because as the group mentioned, videos and news stories are always being recycled and the viewer can never be sure how misconstrued the article or video may be. Therefore, by providing a source that people can go to and know the information being presented is not going to be misconstrued is an extremely important section to have. The "Your Rights" section was my favorite part of the app. It is crucial that when problems arise such as the ones presented in the app that people are aware of their rights and know what they are allowed to do or say, but the truth is many people may not know what they are allowed to do or they might just rather follow orders because they are scared and fear for their future. One thing I would suggest to add to the app are specific tips for people who are trying to apply for citizenship, such as tips for getting through the process quicker, a few of the basic requirements, what to expect when applying, or common problems that arise when applying. The "Immigration Events" section on the app also plays an important role in the app. It allows users to be informed of events they might not even be aware that existed. A possible idea to include when referring to this section is an option to transfer the time and dates of the events into the calendar on their phone or be given the option to receive a notification on the day of the event. Also, in class we mentioned sanctuary schools so it may also be helpful to have a section that supplies a list of sanctuary cities or campuses to be included in the app as well.
