CBU Cohered

In the society we live in, it is very hard for us to connect on a social level especially with all of the technology we have. The reason being because people prefer to socialize via social media platforms such as: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Flickr, Pinterest, Oovoo, and Yelp. This has been disadvantageous to our society because relationships are weakened and even could be potentially broken. Additionally, in our society we live in, people don't ask for help when socializing through the internet. When this occurs, it makes it harder for us to communicate. This is disastrous in all because communication is what keeps us moving that being through: government, politics, medicine, business, and even entertainment. A lack of communication is what has led to violence, corruption, atrocity, and disdain. Therefore, with the CBU Cohesion App, I believe you all will be able to connect the students at CBU a lot better.




I believe your app is a really good ideal because it works as an extension to the CBU Connect. It has additives such as: calendars, upcoming events, campus safety, news, and professor directory. The app adds a fun addition to the goal of y'all mission, and that is to connect the students here at CBU. The app looks very fun to use because it adds more creativity in terms that it allows students to do more than just stay informed on the events at CBU. It allows us to do everything from upload photos to its very own professor directory. I believe students here can very much benefit from this app mainly because it gives them options.





I also believe that this app is very universal in the sense that many people utilized this ideal. We have the CBU Connection site where students can stay informed on current news here on campus. Students can know the results on sporting events, students can email their professors, sign up for events on campus, and even access campus safety, if need be. CBU also has a Facebook page where students can "like" to stay informed and even read posts from professors and other students. People can access this information from the convenience of their phone which makes I easier for students to stay in close contact.

Cohesion CBU we need you!

This project (besides my own of course) is my favorite of them all. For selfish reasons of course. I'm a junior here at CBU, and the atmosphere within the community now may seem to be sub-par freshmen, but it was much worse when I first arrived. Specifically, as a black student on this campus it was hard for me, as well as other students I've talked to over the years, to feel included and to socialize with the diverse population of this campus. To no one's fault, people naturally group up with others that they are used to and make them comfortable. But when you're going from being a majority all throughout grade school to a minority in college it can be extremely challenging learning how to navigate the new social dynamics. That is why I enjoy this app and board idea so much. CBU needs to find a way to have the students of all backgrounds interact with each other more often than at the TKE parties and in the caf. There is a lot of promotion about the community before you get here, but it isn't the case for a large portion of the students and this app could be the solution to that issue.
If students are able to connect to each other on a quick basis, within the safety of the app and comfort of knowing that they are not alone in their CBU experiences the retention rate fo the freshman to sophomore year would be higher. Yikyak was a start, but the anonymity factor it was bound to go in the terrible direction that it did. And it wasn't CBU centric. This has the power to unite a campus which has deep and strong divides and alienation within the student body.

Cohesion

The group that presented the idea of Cohesion did a very good job explaining and presenting. The presentation was very well done, their powerpoint looked very clean and it had my attention. I think that Cohesion is a very good idea that CBU could probably use. Cohesion is somewhat that social media that is trying to unify the school and allow everyone to be included and feel welcomed at CBU. This app is also trying to improve the way we are informed with a different kind of electronic board. Although their ideas were good I feel like it could be further developed. The one think that I found unique about this app is that only CBU students would be able to access it, which gets to their main point to bring the school together.One of our classmates brought up the fact that CBU already does a lot to inform students and to encourage participation. I do agree with that classmate, but I think that this app would be much better because students would be more prone to download the app rather than looking at an email. I honestly think that this app would be better organized and student would like it more. Overall I really liked this idea and I think it can be something that could improve and hopefully it can be something we see in the future here at CBU.

Ideas, Ideas and Cohesion

I love all of the ideas , Along side with what our group came up there are many things that need a little work. Viri? A little work you say? yes I do. One thing I liked was the cohesion app.It seemed fun and while the ideas was great I had issues with it. The idea of  the touch screen was great but the maintenance fees is going to be high and I get the idea of charging the school. I am not sure who said it but that fee has to come from somewhere, our tuition could be one. is it worth it? someone can just be fooling around and boom, broken. I love the screens it would be easy and accessible,but these are some of my issues.  The app was great and the many segments that are in the app. I get the no teachers allowed but If the app is so that we know what is going on in campus if there are no teachers. I mean study session, presentation that teacher give extra credit. That information is crucial. Posting about private things is great and all that but at least by adding that part to the app, I think it would be better. even if it just like they are allowed to only change things in the calendar and not the other post about going out and such. I mean if the university will pay for it then the fact that the teacher can not access it then what is the point.It was to be educational too and helpful for students. the idea is great but it can use some help. Also the website has issues, the team posting for the students has to be harsh. The team need to sleep and study and do their school work, managing the website will not be easy. There should be a better way to manage it or take it off. Even if that section cannot be change then make into another function. Also, for this app to actually work it has to work better than any of the apps that are going around. I get the whole all in one app and is great but first is not a known issue, people are familiar with the other ones like GroupMe, Banner Web, even Email. I get the issue but for people to leave familiarity and comfort it has to be good. over all it just need a little change, the idea has to be redefined  but the direction of the app is a good option.

Cohesion Review

Cohesion was a very interesting project. Its purpose was to be a one stop place for everything that is going on campus. It is supposed to help with campus wide events, sports events, and event features a photo album and "Wall", in which things can be posted. It was a social media app just for CBU students.  It was supposed to solve the problem of, making friends on campus less intimidating; therefore reducing the amount of students that transfer from a 4 year university to a 2 year university. The Wall had sections such as : advice, teachers, class help, social and shopping. It even had a section where you could sell things such as unwanted books and schools supplies and maybe even apparel.

At first I thought there were many flaws in this idea. I thought, first of all, how are they going to convince the majority of the students to download this app? We are already flooded with notifications from Instagram and Snapchat. Do we really need to add one more to the list? And why talk on the wall when you can just talk through your group messages to ask for advice, teacher recommendations and even social events. Its just seemed a bit redundant. All this app was, was a conjunction of all other apps we already have.We also have events emailed to us in the Connection but, the presenters had a good point when they said that not everyone checks their email.The began to garner my attention when they even said that this app could provide a push notification for things like a canceled class, which is a genius idea.

I then began to realize that this app could actually really help get the word around since we really are always on our phones checking our social media. I also realized that this could help strengthen CBU as a community. Not just commuters and residents but everyone as a whole. Although it is a good idea, I just think that a big problems after developing this app would be to actually get people to download this app. For example, when I first came to freshman orientation, I was told to download the app GroupMe and I asked if I HAD TO, and they replied yes, I was annoyed that I had to download an app just for school and later ended up deleting it(although I did end up downloading it again due to the fact that all the groups on campus using group me).A prime example of this would be the BUCs Treasure app, of which many downloaded, but later deleted. How will the app keep its audience engaged enough to keep it on their phones?but it is still a very good idea.

The C Board idea is also very smart. I could not refute any of the points made. It would be so smart and more efficient to just have a touch screen board around campus for the map and even campus events. The only problem would be funding and the maintenance of the board.
