Deviants R Us review

“Deviants R Us” was a strange project and an idea I feel I would never be able to come up with. My first reaction was to laugh. My second and third were really to laugh too but when I realized how many different groups there are and how few of them are compared to the total population, I thought it was a good idea for them to have an outlet to go to. I do not know what made them think of this idea but I think it is good.

This app does bring some concerns. I think it bring a lot of dangerous people close to each other. There will always be people seeking out to use the internet in a bad way and this would be a perfect app for those people to use. They can lure people in by making them feel vulnerable, especially when they are in this app talking about who they are. It also brings concerns on who they are accepting. Some small groups are very dangerous and inappropriate. We, as the audience, asked questions about this and they seemed very open about changing this feature. They understood completely that groups like Skinheads and Swingers should not be accepting into their app feature.

I think that people in these types of groups have other outlets for them to go to. They have meetings and conventions for them to meet and hangout. These places are for them to feel comfortable in their own environment. I feel that when they go to these places, they meet people that they can call when they feel that they are alone. When they are alone, they would not necessarily need this app if they have the friends from the conventions where they are meant to meet new people with the same small group background.

All in all, they did a great job presenting their powerpoint and app feature. They acted very professional while speaking. It is a very serious topic but others who have never heard of the problems might think it is something that is funny, like I did. It was very well presented and answered the questions well. I do not think that I could have ever thought about this as a problem for these subgroups but the “Deviants R Us” did and I am sure the groups are very happy that they did. It is something I would not use but I am sure people in subgroups would love it.

Welcome Home Review

Welcome Home was one of my favorite presentations, simply because it's an issue that we see and encounter everyday. We see homeless people on our way home, to work, or school everyday. Many of these people want to get help, want to be able to work, but many simply can't because they don't have a support system. Welcome Home gives them the opportunity to have a place where they can call home. I love the idea of them obtaining an address and helping them obtain a job. Welcome home provides them with the basic necessities such as food, water, and shelter. My only concern was that I feel a month might not be enough time for someone to get back on their feet. I like the idea that they are able to reapply if they have the need to stay for another month.
The group did an amazing job in presenting the issue to the class as well as addressing a solution for it. The tiny houses were very economical and a very reasonable price to be able to afford. Being able to have two separate houses one for a single person and the other for a family is a very good idea. Welcome Home allows them to be able to have a house of their own, regardless of the size, make them feel at home for once; compared to other homeless shelters where the beds are lined up and you get to sleep with strangers in the same room. Also, the partnerships such as Home Depot to help with the building of the houses, Mcdonalds to provide vouchers of food for the homeless, and other partnerships to help them obtain a job is very resourceful and a great support system for them. As well as the mentor programs that they offer and having speakers to come talk to them is a great way to motivate them even more.
Over all, Welcome Home is an organization that I can see happening in the future. Their idea economically speaking is reasonable and I would love to see something like this one day. My favorite part of their presentation is when they quoted, "we we're once your neighbor," this gives you something to think about. At some point in their lives these homeless people were once our neighbors, and why not help them get back up there. If people thought the same way these guys did, maybe we'll have less homeless people roaming the streets and more people in the working industry.

Save A Kid

Save A Kid is quite an amazing invention. This problem is so frequent that it is so easily overlooked. This problem connects parents of all corners of the world together because it keep their children.  Parents are already in danger of losing their children to extreme temperatures in cars.  

Parents forget that their children are in the car sometimes, and it's not their fault.  Their brain remembers their daily routine of going to work, and, usually, one does not bring their child to work with them.  Save A Kid could help them remember that their child is there.

In the video that they showed several people saw the baby but only one tried to help the baby.  But it was too late.  If the other people could have helped the baby then the baby would have survived the insufferable temperature of the car.  A few suggestions that they could use to acknowledge this is when the parents are couple feet away is unlock the doors so anyone near can see the  baby and get them out. However, the problem with this is kidnappers taking the baby.

Another suggestion the company could implement is have more than a couple a feet, because what if they are at a park.   Parents and children usually stand more than a couple of feet away from each other. If someone was to grab their child, the bracelet would be able to alert them.  

There is nothing else to suggest, and I really like this idea.  Save A Kid could actually save a kid if it were to actual  become a real thing.  

Lyfe Guide Review

First of all,  I think that this is a great concept for an actual application and company.  I think that there is a good majority of people that would benefit from something life Lyfe Guide.  There are so many people that don’t understand that importance of investing, managing your finances, as well as other day to day activities.  I think that this app helps people with those problems.

Out of all the other projects I would have to say that this was one of my top favorites, mainly because I can see the potential of the app and/or company if it was done correctly. Even thought the concept was good, I think that there are a couple of things that could be improved on.  One problem I could see with the app is getting the people/advisors to work for you. For example, there are many investment advisors that make a lot more than six figures a year; however, working at Lyfe Guide they would be making a lot less than that, which I don’t know how many people would give up that much income.  One of the ways you could handed this is contact advisors that already work for companies specializing in the advice that they will be giving.  So, an investment advisor working at Raymond James could advise people on the side and make some form of commission from every call they make.  This way you could get advice from people who still work in the field in which they are advising.  It would also cut down on the amount of money you are having to pay advisors. 

On other addition that I think would be good is to have a bunch of various finance tools incorporated into the app. For instance, in the budgeting section if you had a way for people to input how much they make and give recommendations on a personal budget based on what they input.  This could also be done for many of the other sections of the app, such as a compound interest calculator in the investment section to show the users visually the importance of investing and making money from your money.  One benefit this could have with your app is the ability for users to get some “advice” or get help with an issue really quick.  This is good because it would be able to help users quickly and if they still had problems they could contact an advisor; therefore, lowering the use of the advisors, saving you money on advising fees.

Overall, I think this is a great service and I would love to have an application like this.

SOS Review

Sustain Our Society was another one of my favorite app shown. I think that this was one of the most well thought out projects out of all of them. You guys really did a good job at describing what you were trying to accomplish and how exactly you were going to do it.  The technically aspects of the app and the features within the app were well developed and the tech stuff was great.

I think the concept of what you are trying to go is great. I think that there really is a problem with our society today; I think that there is so much that we can do to make our planet a better place and this app is a step in the right direction. One of my favorite aspects of the site has to be the ability to connect to your car and determine how you can save on gas and decrease emissions. This was really well thought-out and is something that I think could really be implemented.  Even if you could take a couple more cars off the road a day, that is still less than you had before.  Another cool aspect of the app is the ability to determine good health food options.  I know that this has advantages for both the environment as well as the consumer. This can make sure that you are helping out the environment by getting more ecofriendly options, but it can also help the individual by getting them to eat healthier foods.  For the most part, I think that all of the various sections of the app were great. All of the sections combine cover a wide variety of people’s lives and really helps you stay ecofriendly in many aspects of your life.

Another aspect of the system that I really like was the rating system.  I think that rating people by the time they have added to the earth is a great way of showing people how their decisions effect the planet and where we live.  Great concept however, I’m curious on how much it would take to make the earth last another second. This is the only problem I could see with the system, which could be fixed by scaling up the time.  Great job on this aspect of the app it is pretty great to have a visual of how you are helping out.

Overall, this is a great app that could really make a difference. I would really like to see this actually become and app and see people use it to make the earth better.

Dream catcher review

One of the groups in our class developed a bracelet called a Dream Catcher, which is intended to monitor a person's heart while they sleep in order to determine when they are having PTSD-related nightmares. When the person in question begins to have a nightmare, the bracelet will either alert the user, waking them up with vibration, or alert a helper (another person or a dog trained to assist) to help wake them up.

This bracelet, although mostly designed with nightmares in mind, can also assist with PTSD events during the day. It can be manually disabled before heart-raising events such as exercise, and has a button that can be pressed to instantly contact help if an event occurs during this period of inactivation.

This product's implementation is currently limited, as the only PTSD indicator it can currently measure is heart rate. Heart rate is a bit unreliable as a PTSD indicator, as it will increase if the person is having any sort of stimulating or exciting dream, not just a PTSD nightmare. Although false alarms by the bracelet are a problem, I believe that if anyone's life is being significantly affected by PTSD nightmares, the benefit of being awoken from them outweighs the risk of potentially being awoken from other types of dreams. If a non-invasive way to measure blood pressure or blood hormone levels is developed in the near future, this bracelet will become much more reliable upon implementation, and will become even more useful for people affected by PTSD nightmares.

Lyfe Guide Review

I thought the Lyfe Guide presentation was very appealing and creative. The reason why is because I feel like this presentation/concept could benefit me greatly. I am a junior in college and I live with three roommates. Every month I have bills to pay: rent, Internet, MLGW, tuition, gas and grocery. I only work three days a week due to school so my weekly pay check is enough for me only to get by. This means that I am only able to live paycheck by paycheck. Sometimes I splurge and go haywire when I go to the mall or buy impulsive things. I do not own a credit card because I am afraid that I will just spend more than I can save and payoff at the end of the month when I have to pay off the credit card amount. This invention is able to help/guide me with spending my money wisely. I thought that the presentation was greatly explained. It also had an option for credit card problems and advices on how to start one – something that I have been looking forward into getting. I’m sure that the advices given will help me get on the right track after college because I know that I will be greatly in debt.

This group gave a lot of background information in order to make their presentation credible. However, there were a few questions raised during class that struck me. Since the company will start out small how would one be able to know that the advices given by the advisors won’t be the best and most appropriate? What if they themselves are straight out of college (just graduated college)? That being so, how would they be able to give to college students like myself advices if they don’t have the experience themselves? I’m sure if they could put a little bit more thought and work into answering and targeting these questions they would definitely do well if their company were to be produced/generated.

SOS Reivew

I thought that the SOS invention was thoroughly thought out and well explained and presented. The concept of the idea especially stood out to me because of its eco -friendly intention. I live with three other roommates that are girls and they are always leaving the lights on whenever they step out the house. Every month our light and gas bill is through the roof due to this problem. The beaker box is a great idea that can tackle this problem due to the face that I am able to cut off all the unused energy in the house at the touch of a finger.


In addition, I also really like the grocery item expiration barcode app. One can scan the item’s barcode with the phone and it will load up the expiration date. It also informs the person ways you can store the grocery item in order to further its expiration date. I always go grocery shopping weekly but I find that these items expire faster than I expect. As a result, I waste a lot of money because I am not able to use the whole thing due to molding and what not.

There’s also an app that informs you on how to garden and the different methods in order to. I really like this part of the invention because I’ve always wanted to plant different types of flowers, such as carnations, but never had the time or knowledge too. If I could also start a herb garden I would be able to save a lot of time and money. I would also be helping the Earth a lot as well.

The reward network rewards users with prizes every time they reach a milestone with the point system. This motivates users to go out and help the Earth. Personally, I know it would motivate me a lot. Who doesn't like to be rewarded free things for their hard work?

Overall, this presentation incorporated a lot of background information and statistics in order to provide their audience clarification and credibility. To conclude, this presentation was my most favorite. I would definitely download this app and help donate, if possible.

SOS review

One of the groups in our class designed an app called SOS, which is intended to help people save resources and prolong the Earth's life. This app intends to accomplish this by helping the user switch off breakers for unused rooms, by helping them pick food that is better packaged and less likely to be wasted, and by helping them find more sustainable ways to travel, such as by carpool or bike.

This app will incentivize people to live sustainably in two ways: the first way is by showing the person the exact amount of time they've helped to extend the life of the Earth. This number is likely so extremely small that measuring it would be nearly impossible, so the developers are attempting to find a more compelling way to present this number. The second way is by offering rewards to users once they reach certain milestones of earth preservation time. These rewards, such as free Uber rides, breaker home installation, and free purchases to make at organic grocery stores, are intended to be environmentally friendly and to further the preservation of the earth.

This app is great for people who want to live eco-friendly, as it makes it easy to keep track of the progress you're making, while giving out rewards. A major problem with this app, though, is that it needs some way to convince the average person to download it. The average person, I feel, although they see conservation as a good thing, will not go out of their way to accomplish it. The average person still would not go out of their way to preserve the Earth using this app despite its simplicity, unless the rewards system was somehow designed to give substantial rewards. If the app's rewards are worth at least 25 cents of every dollar (of money or of effort) contributed, the average person, rather than just those who are heavily concerned with preservation, will be more likely to use the app.
