What is Just?

What is just? According to Merriam-webster.com, being just is acting or being in conformity with what is morally upright or good. This is a good definition of what just is. However, how does one person decided was is upright or good. Like the movie, “White Bear”, the people that punished the women by making her live through what the little girl lived, think is the just thing to do. Is it really though?

In my personal point of view, I do not feel that torturing the woman in that way is the “just” thing to do. I know what she did is very wrong, and she deserves to pay for what she did, but I do not think that is the way. One thing, by allowing people to spectate her punishment and find it as a form of amusement is very sick. It is almost as bad as seeing a little girl burn to death. I say this because, we know that the woman will eventually crack. There is only so much psychological trauma a person can handle before going completely insane. I understand that they are trying to make her feel what the girl felt, but they are in the wrong as that woman was to film the death. They are seeing a human person being treated inhumane for punishment. What makes those spectators any better than what Victoria did? Is it because she is not dying then and there? I feel that watching somebody fall into the point were they cannot live is nearly as immoral as watching a child burn to death. Another thing, I do not think that it is healthy for the parents of that child to have an establishment like this. For one, I feel like these parents are going to be in a constant reminder of what happened to their daughter. I know that either way it goes; the parents will never forget that. However, letting the world be part of that does not help the grieving part of that. Especially for the people that go there for the amusement part. How can you feel amusement for the loss of someone else? The parents I know want a punishment for Victoria. However, how long until they realize that having Victoria go through that makes grieving for them harder? I think it would feel like reliving a case trail over and over again, which is something that can be exhausting.

As a result, I do not think that what they did in the movie, “white bear” is a just thing to do.

I wonder if we knew what she had did from the start, would our view of the situation be different because the way the episode is set up, it somewhat forces you to empathize and see her as human being, something most people suspected or convicted of crimes are denied, so as a result, it looks as if she's being dehumanized.

This was very well elaborated in comparison to the loss of compassion in the justice system. Of course we are to be disgusted by the acts committed. But the punishment should be just the same as all the others whom commites horrific acts of murder. Just think of the many mass murderers who get executed and are allowed to escaped for killing hundreds. No one would ever think to swipe their memory right? Because it would just be a dumb idea. So why do it to this poor woman. If you feel she should be punished to the maxed then you might as well kill her like the rest
