Definitely the 'White Bear' episode from Black Mirror series was shocking, I believe not only for me but for the most of the people who watched it. The fact that Victoria (the protagonist of the episode) was asking for help and the people just watching her without reaction, gives us a little bit of a taste how our world is and how bad it can become in the future.
But it is in the human tendency to see terrible things happen to people who committed a crime, especially those who involved with children. I think it is the best punishment because it gives the woman to understand how the girl felt. The little girl did not know what was going on. She was confused because her parents was acting weird, as in the episode Victoria could not remember anything and she was confused about who she is and why people acting like that. The little girl was scared because her dad trying to kill her, like in the episode Victoria was scared because the hunters were trying to kill her. Finally the girl was asking for help from her mum but she was just standing there recording the scene, as exactly happened with the people in the episode recording Victoria with their phones while she was asking for help. They do not see her as a human, because she did something so ill.
As we discussed in the class, people think that the same person who committed the crime has to be punished for that crime. But what happens if you cannot punished that person? Victoria is a criminal no matter if she actually killed the girl or not or she was under her fiancé's spells. I believe that her fiancé got off easy because he killed himself. A lot of people believe that the best punishment for criminals is for them to live in a prison for the rest of their lives. Other people think that the best way is for them to endured what victim endured.
I personally I agree with the last kind of punishment and I believe that would surely dissuade other from committing similar crimes. I also think that people should forgive criminals, everybody has a second chance in this life and forgiveness suggests that we believe people can notably change their personalities. A person who is forgiven, understands what he or she did, learned from his or her mistakes and can become a different, way better person.

I understand why you feel that Victoria should be forgiven, however I don't think "forgiveness" is going to fix the damage they have done to Victoria. If they were to forgive her and release her, she would be so mentally damaged that she would most likely kill herself. In this case, if they are determined to inflict that kind of punishment then they should just kill her humanely at the end of it instead of releasing her into the world and allowing her to eventually commit suicide from the mental trauma.
