To be Stagnant or To Change ?

This years Presidential Election truly showed that Americans are ready for a change.  Change that may come with uncertainty but takes courage to achieve even if it means venturing away from the norm to get to these things.  A change some Americans truly believe will "Make America Great Again".  With two presidential candidates from completely opposite ends of the political spectrum with levels of experience and knowledge, brought  much controversy over the under-experienced versus the "overly qualified".  Hilary Clinton was considered to be the "overly qualified" candidate due to her experiences as first lady to Bill Clinton and Secretary of State which gave her an upper hand on her opponent Donald Trump.  Whereas, Donald Trump took the role of the "under-experienced" candidate and focused more on his opinions of what changes he believed would make America great.

Most people believed that since Clinton had the most experience that she would be the best fit for presidency.  But not everyone shared this belief.  The selection of Donald Trump as presidential elect showed that American's are ready for a change.  That change being that they want to break away from the reoccurring cycle of presidents familiar with the system and want someone that is more open minded and willing to do something new versus sticking to the general way of things.  Though some people were shocked by the presidential election others were not because of the media constant display of Trump and his often absurd comments.  Trump's publicity through his television shows as well from the presidential election gave him the platform to show that he was totally against the typical guidelines of being president.

It is no mistake that Waldo, the blue bear cartoon and Donald Trump, presidential elect, have a lot of similarities. One being that they both gained people's attention through their platforms as celebrities. Another being that they both believe in the idea of being different from what everyone is use to and bringing about a "CHANGE".  This "Change" being through allowing people to see that even though they don't have a lot political experience that they bring authenticity to the table. Both use nicknames and other derogatory comments to try to down play the other candidate, drew people's attention to the fact that the other candidates are focused on keeping up with the "standard politicians appearance".

Its hard to believe that the "Waldo Movement" from a television show and this years Presidential Election could share similarities about the selection of a presidential candidate, but it goes to show you that change is truly wanted.  Americans want to venture away from the standard idea of how politics should be run.  They rather have someone who is less experienced with the American way of government than someone who meets these standard political criteria.  This poses the question of future elections to come and the idea of the people choosing more "overly qualified" political  candidates with a lot of knowledge of the government system and how its suppose to be or ones with less experience and knowledge of government system who bring something different to the table than the standard.

Angie, your last paragraph really spoke to me, and I too found it hard to believe that the cartoon character from a short film could be so parallel with what was actually happening in our election. Overall, I thought your blog was well written and really pounded on the insane similarities between a fictional movie and real life.

Maya, I agree with your opinions about Donald Trump and Waldo. I definitely believe that the people were ready for a significant change, and that Donald Trump would suffice that as a rookie to the political world. Hillary Clinton has so much experience in politics that she would be a driving force to the same cycle that the people are ready to break away from. I also agree that Trump and Waldo's main platform of popularity was the media. With how relevant the media is today, any publicity was good publicity in both of their cases.
