"Waldo From a Different Perspective: Authenticity & Human Likeness"

     In "The Waldo Moment" Waldo's supporters praised him even though he was perceived as a virtual figure. His weird outer appearance and two  dimensional figure did not seem to raise question nor be effective in challenging his credibility and eligibility to run in the campaign against experienced politicians. This causes for a more intuitive matter of Waldo's appeal to his supporters. Why did people support Waldo ? How could people rationalize supporting Waldo ?

     There are key instances that allow people to attract to certain people and things. An important factor to appeal to people is to catch their attention. All of the attention  was on Waldo in the campaign. The strategies Waldo unknowingly used to gain supporters is one that works substantially in many real cases.

     The presence of authenticity created a massive separation between Waldo and the other candidate. The biggest difference between stars and regular people is that they are perceived to be one of few and special. The status quo is basic to people of the status quo and they tend to displace themselves from people that are different. This leaves room for likeness or dis likeness. Waldo's physical representation of authenticity was his nakedness. His opponent was a normal politician. In our recent presidential campaign , Trump's hair was his physical representation of authenticity, and Clinton's sexual orientation was her physical representation of authenticity. Both primary candidates obtained the separation or star factor physically. Clinton used her physical star factor to gain supporters.

     Another way Waldo expressed authenticity is through his approach. Waldo made fun of the other candidate with jokes and constantly slandered his opponent. Trump used derogatory nicknames for all of his opponents and used his slogan to brand his campaign and even made merchandise with the slogan "Make America Great Again".
This gave his supporters a movement while excluding his opponents. Waldo's ideas also deviated from the status quo and resonated with people that were also against the standard politician. While the politician continued his ways in the exposure  that Waldo created.

     Controversy is another key attention grabber. People love controversy and a lot of news reported is controversial which is what makes it a good story to report. Waldo's unorthodox remarks and lack of political correctness made him viral. Which allowed more people to be mindful of him and in that case consider him as an elect while leaving the other candidate unknown to the people that do not normally follow politics . Trump eliminated a lot of his opponents simply by making himself the topic of discussion in many homes in America. It is possible that people want controversy. If there is no controversy then life would be boring and peoples' blood will not pump as fast. America's most popular platforms consist of a lot of controversy: football , basketball, rappers with face tattoos, criminal cases, and political campaigns.

     Honesty which includes connection is another point that gets people attention or attracts them. Many more people will view a post called "The real truth about gluten" than a post called "gluten". When Waldo reveals the inner processes of his component's campaign that normally would not be revealed by a regular opponent he gains the trust of his supporters and even more supporters. People seem to appeal to people that seem to be telling the inside story or hidden truth.

     Supporting Waldo is possibly a natural response of people in the movie which caused his supporters to be so spirit filled or heavily influenced by what Waldo said. Passion can not arise by thought it just comes with what resonates with people's inner being. People are people and can not deviate from thinking or being like people and there are key trends that seem to work in gaining the following of people of many backgrounds.
