What do
people want the most out of a candidate? The ability to bring about
change. The episode “The Waldo Moment” that we watched in class
was about a blue bear cartoon that shockingly became a popular
candidate in an election. People are obsessed with bringing about
change, so when they were introduced to Waldo, many quickly turned to
him. The people were blind to the fact that he was incapable of being
an actual human and that his intentions were only to create fame and
money. I believe the people were so quick to follow him because Waldo
went outside the status quo, he was different, and the people flocked
to that. As for the previous presidential election, maybe that's how
Trump collected all his votes. He started off as a candidate that
made cruel, inappropriate jokes about other candidates, with no real
intention of winning. However as the election went on, he became the
most popular candidate. Just as Waldo, Trump promises change and as
Americans that is what we want most. The Americans that voted for
Trump believe that he is the candidate that will bring the most
change. He's going to build a wall, “Make America Great Again”...
People are so unsatisfied with the country that they believe drastic
change is the way to go. Even though they don't support everything he
says, they supported him for the fact that he would “change”
things. One the other hand, supporters for Clinton believed that
America was already on its way to being great. They don't think
drastic changes need to be made in the opposite direction, but
changes going forward. America was on its way to accepting different
groups of people and now they feel that with Trump being President,
we are taking enormous steps in the wrong direction.
        I'll
have to admit, I’ve never really followed or actually cared about
past political elections. After this election however, I see myself
developing opinions and having different political discussions with
others. As many others have stated, there was no candidate that
people truly supported, it was just who was the least bad out of the
two. What I don't understand is why we as Americans are forced to
decide on a candidate when we don't want either. We shouldn't just
have to settle for a candidate and then hope and pray we survive the
next four years. We should be fully confident in our President and
not have to worry about what is going to happen to our country. It's
highly unfortunate that we as Americans don't really decide who
represents our country. We're given a few options and told pick one.
So as Americans, we have to stick together during this time of
distress and realize that we hold the power. We make changes, not
some old, obnoxious, racist with an awful haircut. We decide how we
treat others, who we stand up for, and what we believe in. Let us
look unto each other for support and follow what we think is right.
This new President may make things harder, it may bump us back a bit.
It is how we respond to his decisions that will bring about change.
We as Americans will “Make America Great Again”.

I agree with you Mackenzie. Most of the people believe that with Trump being President, America is going to the wrong direction. But Americans has to realize that they hold the power, as you said, and they have to stay positive in any difficult situation in the future.
