Experiencing the 2016 presidential election was peculiar at times. Donald Trump running for office made his encounters seem as though he was on one of his reality shows instead of actually running for the president. Seeing how far he got in the race made me think about how anyone can run for office as long as they meet the age requirement and they are citizens. We need more people with Donald Trump's boldness to run but they would have to have a plan to back that boldness. Trump's status as a businessman and reality television personality made it less likely for the public to take his scandals seriously as far as the people who voted for him in spite of that. The things that were revealed during his campaign were somewhat categorized as part of his persona rather than the qualities we don't look for in someone running for president. His success as a businessman doesn't out weigh the experience he needed for the decisions he would need to make not only effecting himself but the entire country. We as a country need to reevaluate the system we are using to elect our leaders in order to encourage people that have the drive needed to change our country for the better to actually desire running for these offices.
I hoped Bernie Sanders would be in the one taking Obama's place after this election because of the message he brought. He embodied the voice of the "forgotten" in this country and ignited fire in the youth to come together. Hopefully the results of this election will encourage more involvement in political affairs. We need someone from this generation to stand up and be the voice for change. The generations before us had Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and many others that spoke out and caused positive change in this country. The Black Lives Matter movement will hopefully produce a leader like this, which could lead to getting people in public offices that have a focus on current issues in our country involving police brutality for example. Someone from our generation educated to the level needed to provide the foundation to work their way up in public office will get middle America's voice heard.

Dori, your perspective on this year's election is very thought provoking. I, too, agree that we need better leaders for our generation. We especially need more African American leaders to advocate for people of color. As you stated, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X were perfect examples for the change prior generations wanted to see during their time, and we need the same type of leaders. While many people aspire to do this in our generation, it seems as if they often get sidetracked with arguments or are biased. Also, a lot of people resort to violence, and that never really solves anything. Additionally, the Black Lives Matter movement has been a good thing; however, I feel as though it's only a good source for spreading information, but it fails to ignite action. It seems to me that the information starts and ends with a hash tag, but until people actually start to go out and change things, it'll always be the same.
I agree with your comment about young leaders taken a stand. I genuinely believe that the hope for this country is in the youth. When our minds come together, there is nothing that can stop us. When I viewed a video on the clarification on how and what the electoral college works, something enlightened me. They said that many of these representative that represent the constituents of each state have been in office for years!! The ideals and goals of those representatives have been the same for such a long time. Many of our older representatives many not have experienced the same trials and tribulations that younger representatives could advocate for. Nonetheless, I agree with your comment on change in creating a stronger voice for our generation.
Dori I agree with you about needing more leaders like they had before our time. When we all come together peacefully and positively, it really will send a message. We are strong together, and we do need a stronger voice for the generation. In addition, it is very true that anybody can run for president as long as they meet those easy requirements. Kanye wanting to run for president shows how easy it is, and I think not just anyone should be able to run and win so easily.
