This election has, in a way, brought our country to it's knees in division. Some people may support Trump, some Hillary, and others third party members, but what is it that we are all looking for? So many times we jump on the band wagon because that's what the people around us believe, we forget that we have a voice. In this day and age where technology is so prevalent and we are constantly bombarded with other people's ideas on social media we're not sure what to think. As a generation we are very opinionated but who's opinions are we giving? Was Trump or Hillary really giving their opinions on ideas or was it what they thought the voters from their party would side with? No one can really say for sure.
When we watched the episode with Waldo, it really made me think. We have all of these candidates telling us what they think we want to hear, but we don't really have a candidate with a real stand. Although Waldo was a fictional character the person behind the face had his own opinion and voiced them. He was behind a mask without changing his story. We all wear a mask in different situations and some of us are social chameleons, changing with every situation that the wind blows. The only time that Waldo wasn't who he claimed to be was when the producer tried to take over. These candidates are just like a fake Facebook profile, or more like a linked in profile. They want to be hired so they make themselves out to be the best that they can be. They all hide behind what they want us to believe but they can delete thousands of emails or have sex scandals behind closed doors. Not to say that anyone could do that same thing, after all, we are human.
We need to start having our own opinions rather than those that have been presented before us. We need to learn as a generation to speak up that just because we are young and our voices have been quieted for so long doesn't mean that we can't rise above that. We need to be more like Waldo, not in the sense that we should go around cussing people out and making them look like donkeys, but that we should use our voice to make a difference in this country and even the world. If a fake character could almost win as a PM in the episode what's to say that truth couldn't win in our elections? Would you rather have someone who lies to you about what's going on in the world or someone that will help you understand the world better?

Kami, I do agree with the fact Americans do sometimes band wagon with candidates and just vote for who they hear more about. However, Trump did state his opinion on various ideas. That is why many people support and do not support him, because of his brutal honesty. Maybe that is why people voted for him because even though he is obnoxiously insensitive, he does say what he believes.
The problem with Waldo to me is not that he spoke up it's how he choose to speak up. By making a mockery out of the debates and showing such disrespect and bullying of the candidates he loses any chance of gaining the respect of the audience. I truly believe if we as Americans could learn the key value of respecting one another especially in times of disagreement we would accomplish far more. Progress working together would be much stronger and the greater good would be served. Furthermore if we would stop the bullying and not target others based on perceived differences we could stop the hate. Our recent election campaigns were based more on trying to receive publicity turmoil that divided people rather than focusing on the issues to bring Americans together to find common ground.
Like what the author said in the blog, the people should have their own opinion, have an independent mind.
