This week has been one of sadness and of joy for many people after the Presidential election results. Some people are quite happy that Trump has won, maybe because he represents a change in the political climate that many of us come to know. Other are sad and scared because as a man he has said some very disturbing things that many people find offensive, sexist and racist; yet many people thought that he would be a better candidate than a career politician. What I find sad is that over half of the people that voted for him feel that the comments and actions he demonstrates are easily overlooked. This kind of thinking was shown also in the “Waldo” episode from the “Black Mirror” television series, in this episode the rashness and humor of an animated bear where seriously considered in an election and then ultimately wanting a change from the normal corporate jargon lead to the world being ran by whoever controlled the animated bear. As crazy as that sounds let me remind you of an incident in California where a town in 1981 elected a dog for mayor. Today, we are more than ever plugged in and information get skewed along the lines of communicating leading to miss information even false information being pass along. This is important because we can be manipulated one way or another by the information we obtain. Example “gimme a break, gimme a break, break me off a piece of that…” if you said kit kat bar you would be an example of how clever advertisement can place a jingle in our heads that make us desire their product. I am not saying that we are mindless minions that would elect an animated bear to office but I am scared that we could vote into office a man who has demonstrated himself to be disrespectful to women and offensive to groups of minorities. I can only speak for myself when I say that I am woke and that I plan to become more active in politics. I can only hope that more people will become involved in the politics and the 46% of the population that did not vote will find the importance in their voice and vote next time. We all must be courageous and know that all our voices matter. This is a short clip I found, it is a little over 2min, I thought that you might enjoy.
