Not even the best technology...

What would we all think if there was an identical "us" created by our social media? How would it be in comparison to our actual "us"? It is totally true that before watching the movie "Be right back" in class, never have I ever thought about something like this, but this is something it does actually give you something to think about.

Through this movie it is portrayed a plausible future real life situation, in which thanks to modern advances, technology is used to connect the living with the dead side. If for instance we looked back fifty years ago and looked nowadays´ technology, I reckon that it would not be a meaningless madness thinking about that possibility on real life in some years. Back to the movie, after the death of one of the mains´ characters, Ash, his girlfriend does all she can to try to bring him up as closer and she can. And in order to make it possible, technology has played a crucial paper on it.

It all began with an skeptical attempt from Ash´s girlfriend to make an approach to his recent dead boyfriend. Starting from basic text messages, the idea of having Ash at the other side of the screen device was the most reassuring thing it could have happened her after Ash´s death and a baby on heading. Text messages led to phone calls. What began as something awkward, strange and unbelievable for her, became a habit or even an addiction. Talking to your dead boyfriend/husband as if he was just working abroad, what widow would not ask for something like that? She knew it was not real, but pretending it was is as real as if it was, at least by the moment.

After a while she got to a point in which phone calls were not enough, she needed more. Ash came back to real life thanks to technology through artificial intelligence. It was him but it was not him, and she soon realized it. The new Ash was an empty, lifeless recipient, with the shape of a human body, filled in with his living social life memories. She knows that he died, that there´s actually no come back to reality, that´s the reason why she eventually end up feeling reluctant to have him by her side.

Though it might seem somehow appealing to make contact with a dead beloved one or relative, what this movie indeed shows us is that not even the most modern advances on technology can bring back someone from the dead exactly as it was on life. It cannot be denied that social media covers a great part of our life but it will never expand that 100% that makes us who we really are. Not even the best technology can.
