Waldo and Elections of 2016

Waldo the bear is the view of a political revolution continuously offending the establishment politicians for not caring about people and, most important, not being real. He asks “what are you for?”, and the people love it. People are tired of the politicians being stay in their own word, not caring about their voters. But the rebellion is entirely unable. The main voice behind the bear does not even believe in this. As he said many times, he does not stand for anything, he does not know what he is doing. In some part, I think that the 'Waldo moment' is a criticism on the state of politics, where a funny candidate can do so good because no one has any trust in the system. But the more zestful messages is all we have got, because no one else really knows what they are doing. Thus, if somebody wants to ask the episode what it is for, it would remind people that all rebellion does, is overturn the situation. It's clear that everyone of the candidates do not want to fetch about actual change, but the matter is that there should not be any, because afterward everything breakdown, and we have to start everything from the beginning. In the abstract, this could be a fair thing.

Moreover, the episode relates to real life now of the presidential elections that has recently passed. Actually, when I was watching the episode in the class, I suddenly realized that this episode was basically about Donald Trump. Both, Waldo and Trump, were popular pictures in the entertainment industry before running their campaigns, both have fame for being loud, and both respond to questioning with jokes and personal attacks. Also, both of them trying to make people to vote them for something that does not represent any ideas or issues. Trump insults people as Waldo and both offer not subtract solution. The fact that Trump is an actual person, might be the biggest different between him and Waldo.

As a non American, I was never interested in following any American politics. But after the elections I saw people around me depressed about the results and I became more interested in knowing and discussing their opinions. I personally met people that supported Trump. Most of them knew that he is a big joke but they still voted for him. On the other hand, people who supported Hillary, had better statements why people should voted for her. In my opinion, both Hillary and Trump are bad, and I do not know which one would be the worst for America. It is important that we are critical of who we give power to. I have lived in the U.S. two years now, and I feel that this is my country too, and I want the best for it. At this point, the only thing that we can do, it is to stay positive and think that everything happens for a reason.

It's interesting to hear thoughts of our country's politics from a person who came from overseas. If I may ask, is the political system in Greece anything like our system in America? Do you all elect officials/presidents?

Your comment about no one has any trust on the system makes sense when you said that anyone can run for president.

Your comparison of trump and waldo was accurate. It is interesting , to me at least, how black mirrors could poke fun at this notion that people are tired of politics, and that they would jump at the opportunity to rebel.

I agree with what you said, and I find it interesting to see someone's opinion who is not from America. It is definitely a historical moment in our country and I would think it to be very cool to experience historical moments in a foreign country.

I completely agree with Waldo reminding you of Trump; I instantly got that feeling when watching the show.

I nice to see someone that is not American expressing concern for the US. Honestly, it means something is very wrong with American politics.
