Waldo is Reality

Overall, Waldo was an interesting character. I don't think putting Waldo, a made up cartoon, into the election was a good idea. Although they thought political entertainment was what the people wanted, is it really what they need? The entertainment should remain as that, but it shouldn’t be running anything in the country. We need someone who knows what they are doing, a good representation, and someone who will do more good than harm. As far as similarities, Waldo and Donald Trump are similar with using profanity and insulting people. Every crazy thing that Waldo and Donald Trump said, it was all over the news. Publicity was a part of the film they intended to use for their platform. Waldo or Trump did not have much experience with politics, and they both have a targeted audience. Waldo's targeted audience was people who were tired of politics, and Trumps' were everyone except minorities; specifically, the white and privileged who fully supported him, and feels threatened. In addition, Waldo's team wanted to engage the youth. To engage the youth, technology played a big role. Everything is depended on technology. Moreover, Waldo became the future, and they carried it on without Jamie. Waldo didn't win, but he was really popular to the people. Waldo wasn't real, but to them he was realer than the other politicians. The people wanted someone who felt their frustrations with politics and that someone was Waldo. On the other hand, once Jamie had decided that everyone shouldn’t vote for him, the owner turned Waldo into a more evil cartoon. I found that disturbing that people would actually support an aggressive, fake candidate like that.
On another note, I was talking to one of my Mexican friends. She was telling me how someone in her class said that Donald Trump will probably not do what he said. Although race doesn’t matter, this was a White privileged person who does not understand the concerns that some minorities have. Of course they would think this because they don’t have any racial challenges to go through. This is what Dr. J meant when she said that people took him serious but not literal. In class, people said that all of what Trump said was not crazy. It doesn’t really matter if he said good things, why would you want someone like him as your president? Someone who insults people, uses profanity all the time, divide whites from minorities, dislike for Mexicans specifically, and has a bad temper that could get this country in a lot of trouble with others who doesn’t like the U.S. I agree that no one is perfect, but it’s obvious who should and should not be in office. Personally, I didn’t want either candidate to be in office, but who’s worse? I am a Black woman, and I am not going to live in fear and let this election rule my life. To be honest, I am tired of talking about the election because it is what it is. There is nothing much we can do about it, but to sit back and see what happens over these four years.

Lakeva--

I enjoyed reading your blog post and agree with most of your conclusions! I think going in, the company new that Waldo would not win, they merely just wanted to lighten up the election and they did so with Waldo's crude humor. I like your point on how the people were attracted to Waldo on the basis that he was more real than the legitimate politicians that were running... even though he was a cartoon bear. It just goes to show how people will always favor honesty, even when it comes in a harsh way!

Lakeva,
I also enjoyed reading your blog and agreed to some of your conclusions. I disagree with saying putting Waldo in the election was a bad idea. I think it proved how sick people were of actual politics and how all it took was a cartoon bear to speak up and everyone followed. Obviously, the bear was never going to win but having it actually run in the election and having so many people support Waldo really symbolizes something.
I also agree with saying both of these candidates were terrible in their own way. Much like the movie, I think people just want a change. They want honestly. That's what Trump is known for. I hope my points made sense, your blog was a very good read! See you Wednesday.
