Was She Sane?

The episode, "White Bear" from the series Black Mirror is disturbing for the unusual and cruel punishment they gave to someone in my opinion. This episode displays as a real life stimulation where a women murderer has been punished for her crimes but her punishment is different. Rather than going to her being sentenced to jail she lives in a stimulated park called by the name of the case, "White Bear Justice Park," where the whole place is evolved around her. To start her and her fiance kidnapped a young girl and basically running away from the police all across the country. The story was huge on the news and wanted everyone to keep a look out her the missing child. After months of them keeping her they put her in a sleeping bag then burned it. While she was dying inside the main character herself, Victoria, was recording the entire thing. When they were finally caught the husband hung himself while in custody and she was left to be punished.

The way the writers have set this episode up is starting it with the woman waking up in her house and she's confused. She goes through a series of events until the end: First she goes down stairs see a picture of the girl she killed and is asking people outside is this her daughter then she can't remember who she is and meets someone to take her along and run away from people who are trying to kill her. The whole time people who are visiting the park are watching her and recording her moves. The point of this was to remind her at the end that she is a terrible human being and  what she did a tragic. After this reminder she travels back to her fake home and her memory is wiped then she starts the whole day over again.
Is this punishment logical? In a way I believe you could say yes. The point of this punishment is to have her go through exactly what the child went through while she was taken and with the murderers. I feel as though they accomplished their mission with having her experience what the child went through but for her to have to go through this and then have her memory erased is kind of pointless. What is the point of reminding her whats she did and how terrible she was if her memory is erased every night. I believe that she should've went through this for a limited time until she understood what they were trying to get her to see, but not have her memory erased so she may learn. I also believe that she should've been put through a mental hospital or custody to figure out if she was in the right state of mind. If she wasn't and knew what she was doing then punish her. (but in the normal way of sentenced to lifetime in prison or I could even understand death.) However if she was insane I feel she should've been put into a hospital... All in all no one should have to go through this unusual punishment without examination of how the person may truly be.

I doubt they were thinking of ways to make her seem like a victim and even though what she did to the little girl is wrong, in some instance she is a victim. A victim of the park and all the people that torture her day after day. I also feel that the fiance was coward for killing himself off like he did instead of facing the punishment.

That is most insane part how people can actually come to see her and be apart of her punishment. Also I agree the fiance knew what he did was beyond wrong.

I agree with you that it has to be an examination to determine if this punctual punishment is what she actually deserves.

I think the people at the park need to be examined! How can they just laugh at her. Is it not disturbing any of them?
