Tip of the Iceberg

There always seems to be that tipping point in everything, "the tip of the iceberg" if you will. Technology being one of the most effective in pushing humans to its limits and reaching the impossible. The video we watched in class was the epitome of reaching these limits. I believe there was a disconnect within most, but not all, of the students in the class because we didn't have anyone that close around us; we didn't have that relationship and love Martha and Ash had. However, it fathoms me to see Martha commit in opening those doors to experience Ash in another form. Once Martha opened her life to another world in being able to chat with Ash2, I knew she would not be able to close that door again. Clearly, my theory was true. As the movie progressed, there was a scene where she dropped and broke her phone and she was devastated; she went straight home and replaced it.  Even at the end of the movie, it is irrefutably clear that she was never over him and could not let him go.

In my opinion, I don't agree with the idea of even being able to talk to a deceased person, especially if it was someone you deeply love. For example, I would feel constricted to the technology as Martha was. I would personally not see them the same way, even if I did miss them dearly. I feel like it would not be genuine or even real, but fake. I would not like to be attached to technology, for the fact that anytime technology fails I will blame the world for my mistakes and be emotional just as Martha was. Technology is nothing but a materialistic component that can end at any time but as humans we sadly are becoming immune to it. As a result, we have evidence of this as we become jittery and even stressed when we don't have our phones on us. Being the President of a organization my phone, as well as my charger, needs to be on me at all times to make communicate thoroughly throughout the day. Personally, however, I have already become weary of having my phone with me, for I get distracted in class, I miss out on family, and personal life. I am beginning to become reluctant in using my phone entirely. If this is the case, then I would assume that my vision of the uncanny valley or tipping point would be even sooner than that of Martha's. I would definitely not have done what she did and tried to recreate a gilded life through technology.

Overall, we as humans need to be cautious about how technology runs our lives. We need to remain and stay vigilant. Are we not worried to face the day when we have to rename or reestablish what it means to be human and what we call technology? I am, and as a whole we need to step back and breath for a moment and realize that it shouldn't be that way.

I strongly agree with "technology is nothing but a materialistic component that can end at any time but as humans we sadly are becoming immune to it." Digital technology is something that humans created, but we should not let it create us. Just like you said, technology can end at anytime, but the world keeps spinning and we keep living, but if we allow technology to consume us, there may not be an "us" soon.

I also agree with your statement about how devastated she was when she dropped her phone. The idea that the phone was somehow keeping ash alive when he is dead is a creepy thought. I also agree with the fact that she was not over Ash, instead of finding a man that could be a suitable father for her child, she selfishly kept Ash 2 around for her own sanity.
