On Monday, we watched the move, Be Right Back, in which a man dies and his essence (I use this term
loosely) was returned in the body of a very realistic human robot. This aspect
many people found troubling even creeping, Masahiro Mori, a robotic Professor,
discusses this theory he calls the Uncanny Valley. He discusses how people are
ok with robots up to an extent but the minute they become too human people
start feeling uneasy. This is interesting to me, I guess maybe I’m a sci-fi
kinda girl, but the thought of life like human robots interest me, and what
about the man recreated in a life like human robot, what if their was a way to
actually transfer his stream of consciousness into the machine? That could be
an end to death as we know it, I don’t know about you but I would love to have
my Mother, Grandmother and Grandfather back. I can understand the whole scary
damnation thing, scary robots taking over and getting rid of the inefficient humans,
but I feel as if is unfounded. I mean I love terminator as much as the next
guy, but I can’t foresee a future where robots try to kill off the human race. What
I can see is that in the future life becomes more automated, think about now
compare to even say ten years ago, how much has your phone changed and are you
scared of your phones? I feel like the only real monster in the world are
humans, I mean think about it we start wars, we steal, lie and cheat. Now I am
not saying we are all bad because were not we are beautiful and unique but
flawed and in a way I think people are scared of anything that threatens to
compete with their uniqueness. So where are we to go from here, I feel that we
can learn to accept the possibility of life like human robots and work towards integrating
science and life the possibilities are endless to what the human race could
really achieve I mean look how far we have already come. What lies ahead could
be the next step in human evolution and that’s kinda cool to me. Alan Kay a computer
Scientist said this “Some people
worry that artificial intelligence will make us feel inferior, but then,
anybody in his right mind should have an inferiority complex every time he
looks at a flower.” I like this now ask yourself do you feel inferior looking
at a flower.

I absolutely love this blog. You stated that uploading your consciousness to a robotic being could be the end of death as we know it. I couldn't agree more with this comparison. Maybe this can serve as a new form of grieving.
