PTS-Talk

On Friday, one of the groups presented their project as PTS-talk. PTS-Talk was a support website that was made to help anyone that is suffering from PTSD. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a disorder that is characterized by failure to recover after experiencing or witnessing a terrifying event. To be diagnosed with PTSD, you must have the symptoms for a whole month. The symptoms are nightmares, flashbacks, anxiety, depression… etc. This condition can last months to years with triggers that bring back memories of the terrible event with intense emotional reactions.
There are over 3 million US cases per year of PTSD and many people still don’t really talk about it. Since it is a mental health issue many people seem to not really care or think it’s important because we don’t really know much about it. This issue is very sensitive to talk about so when talking about it, you have to be very careful what you say. Even though it is sensitive you can still find a way to work with the person and help them get better.
The website was created so anyone that has PTSD can have a safe place and be able to talk to others that are going through the same things as them. The different forums the website had is a very great way of really focusing on the type of PTSD you have or someone you know has. This is also very helpful for the people that don’t have insurance or can’t afford to get professional treatment. Also, this shows people that you can get through it and have a support group to be with you throughout it. The people that are writing on the website are either people that need the help or the ones that have already gone through it and being an inspiration to others around the US.

I personally really loved this idea and I think it can actually work even after this semester is over. The group was really organized with how they presented and it actually made me learn a few new things because I didn’t really know much about PTSD. The group went through their whole website and really showed us how it functions and how easily you can use the website. The group did an amazing job at really giving us information about a subject I didn’t know much about and telling us how PTSD is in their life.
