Bystander Effect

During the episode of "Black Mirror", the main character was faced with a situation of being trapped in a sort of punishment for the murder of a little girl. Her fiance was put in prison but committed suicide. During her punishment, many of the people were just watching from a far distance with their cameras and phones, taking pictures and videos of what was happening to this person. I think that this was a good example of the bystander effect. We see something terrible is happening to this person, and the people just watch and stare. They do nothing to help the situation or the person who was constantly asking for them to help her. I think that this raises a moral issue of the bystander effect. People who just watch hoping that someone else will help the situation. In our world, we see it happen everyday. When a fight breaks out at a school or in public, the students like to just hug around the fight and film them fighting instead of helping the situation. Do we feel responsible for witnessing the event but not doing anything about it? Do we not feel guilty for not helping in a dire situation?
Going back to the movie, the main character did a huge crime of kidnapping and murdering a little girl. She was then put in a punishment for her crimes with people labeling her as a criminal. In a similar situation, would anybody try and help a criminal? Would anyone want to help a criminal escape a situation if they knew that this person they were helping was a criminal? I think we have to go into the question of if it is morally right to help someone who has done wrong like a crime. Personally, I think that if I were in this situation of whether or not to help this person, I would not help this person. This person has done a huge crime and I do not want to get involve with this. I think this is what many people also ask. Some people would want a reward or something in return for helping and others may not help at all. Is this morally right to ask for something in return even tho your are helping this person? A lot of these questions are important to raise and think about. These are things that people do and I believe that this is a question that needs to be talked more about this in regards to the our world we live in.
