Catfish

The internet is something that we all use in our everyday lives. It  could be for both work and pleasure. A lot of people use the internet now in days to make new friends or even start relationships. I have seen many episodes of the Catfish before so I already knew what was going to be coming when I saw the movie. This doesn’t mean that I still wasn’t in shock when I saw what took place. In the movie it starts off introducing Nev and his friends. We learn right away about a friendship Nev has with a little girl named Abby who lives in another. She sends him many paints and its clear that she is extremely talented for her age. Yaniv gets extremely close to this family. He may have even gotten a little to close to Abbys older sister. 

Him and Abby’s older sister talk every single day as if they are dating. Yaniv even admits that he is sure if they meet then they would begin dating right away. As Nev gets closer and closer to Abby’s older sister he starts to realize things don’t add up. He doesn’t notice this until she sends him video of her singing that turns out to not even be her. He then confronts her about it and she gets mad. Nev and his friends then decide to go track this girl and her family down when they found out many things they told them aren’t true.It turns out that everything was a huge lie. Even Abby being an artist was a lie. It turns out that all of this was the mom of Abby’s doing. She was the artist, she was Abby’s older sister that Yaniv was flirting with, etc. She went above and beyond with this lie and had many Facebook accounts of other people to make it all seem real. Talk about dedication right?

I for one don’t think it is ever right to “catfish” someone like she did to Nev. Even if you clam to have feelings towards the person you are doing it to. You are lying to them at the end of the day and once they find out they are going to be extremely heart broken. Is that something you really want to do? It is pretty evident that Abby’s mom was in love with Nev for her to do all of this and she even knew that some day this would blow up in her face. So why did she continue to do it? Because she “likes” him and didn’t want to lose him since they were so close. I actually have a friend who knows someone that got catfished, she was on the show and everything and she was not happy about the situation at all. Her case was much different though. Her guy was real all along. So this meant he looked exactly like the photos the girl had of him. He was just playing with her feelings the whole time it turns out.

It is never good to treat someone like this. At the end of the day you should just be honest with them no matter the out come. It is much worse to lie and get caught then to just be honest from the begging. You should also be careful who you talk and trust on the internet. Take Yanivs story as an example. He trust this family that he met online and it all ended up being some lie that ended up hurting him in the end.
