Catfishing

The documentary Catfish demonstrated how the internet can be very deceiving and manipulative. You never know who is on the other side of the web. Sadly, Nev learned the hard way when he found out that the woman, Angela, he was messaging and talking to on the phone was the same person as Megan, Abby, and the other numerous people involved in the thread. Personally, I wasn't much surprised as I am fully cautious of the many fake ads, news, etc that the internet provides to people. I understood why Angela did what she did, but I believe she wasn't thinking very clear about how Nev would feel about it. I mean, Nev really thought he had a deep connection with Megan, but unfortunately, he was betrayed by fake love, although I believe Angela had feelings for Nev, but not the other way around.

Similar things happen in the internet like fraud and scams, where unknown individuals persuade people to subscribe to something, buy something, or open something. Once they have someone on their hook, only the worst can happen: identity theft. Although some may consider this the most serious case, I believe that what Nev went through is much more worst. Imagine how many kids and teenagers have access to the internet. Nev is not the only victim as there are many other potential younger people who may face far worse fates then what Nev experienced.

In the end, Nev didn't face Angela with anger and disgust after what he found out about her. He instead wanted to know the whole truth and nothing but the truth. Eventually, Nev began to realize the reasoning behind Angela's doings, but it didn't alleviate his feelings towards the fake connection he had with the imaginary Megan. Personally, I think Nev did the right thing of confronting Angela and finding out why she did what she did. I think people should do the same and find out more about the person he or she is talking to on the internet because you never know who's on the other side. From Nev's experience, I think we can all learn that we need to be cautious of the friends you have on any social media sites like Facebook. Somewhere in that friend's will be someone who is not really them like we have seen in Nev's experience. It's all a matter of being cognitive about it and making sure to hit the accept button when you fill you know the person very well.
