Heat Guard Final Presentation

Heat Guard Final Presentation

By: Robert Feldmayer, Timothy Lawson, Ashley Hammond, Henry Liu and Joshua Posey

Our project's objective was to design a car seat with built in sensors and Bluetooth technology to alert parents or bystanders in order to prevent forgetfulness, neglect, or tragedy with children. Our future plans with the technology would involve a fully integrated sensor system built into the car, in the hopes of preventing pets and children who are not in car seats from suffering as a result of being unable to escape the extreme temperatures. In the end, safety is our priority and ultimately every life saved is a blessing.

This idea is awesome! You guys are ingenious!

Heat guard is a great idea. I would encourage your group to seek out getting a patent on this technology. This idea could be something as simple a 12v module mounted in the ceiling of all cars and wouldn't even have to be hooked up to car seats. A module is scalable and could work with even older cars, it wouldn't have to be smart cars if the system was designed right. Similar to aftermarket alarm systems and what not available for vehicles.

I really think that we already have all the tech you would need available to make this work. It would need some hefty programming though. You could easily install temperature sensors and a camera in the module to monitor the inside of the cars environment and then use a deep learning algorithm to monitor to identify passengers and pets in the vehicle. The deep learning algorithms are even capable of monitoring heart rate using a camera. Don't believe me, look into the research MIT students are doing with it.

This technology could easily be implemented and reminds of series radio and when it first came out. You could even setup the system to be synced with newer cars alarm system and record break ins real time to add to the benefits of the system.

Anyways, three thumbs up! I'll look at the patents a year or two down the line and if nothings still out don't get mad when I steal your idea!! JK, but seriously.

The idea and the execution was amazing!

First, the concept itself is great, a much-needed product that could very easily become a must-have for every parent. The data speaks for itself in proving why a product like this would be welcomed with open arms from the general public. The health risks of a hot car are extreme and it is incredible that a technology like this could save so many lives. The only worry that I have with the Heat Guard seat and all products created for children is what happens when something goes wrong. The risks are much higher when making products for children, not to mention safety products. There is no way to have a perfect product so I just wonder how reliable the software and hardware have to be before Heat Guard is given the green light to hit the shelves. I remember watching a TED talk from Elon Musk where he discusses how reliable the auto-pilot function in Tesla cars has to be before someone will be able to input a destination into the gps, fall asleep, and wake up at the destination. A 99.99% success rate may sound reliable but when taken into context, that means 1 in 10,000 trips will result in a failure of some sort which is not good at all. Elon Musk explained the success rate has to be equal to one failure every 100 lifetimes which is an outstanding number. I would imagine that Heat Guard would have to have a rate in that same ballpark to give parents the peace of mind that they are paying for.
What impressed me the most about the presentation was the execution. The PowerPoint was super clean and professional. The facts and charts were integrated very well with the design template and the information was very clear. The logo was simple but unique. Huge compliment to whoever put it together. The Heat Guard website is easily the best one presented so far. I wouldn’t be able to tell that this was a project and not professionally made. The photoshop on the picture with the baby was a really cool addition. Big fan of the company email. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the product and the presentation, great job.

I think the idea of this project was overall a good idea.  The group focused on a problem that unfortunately is really common today.  I can't decide what is more sad, the fact that people leave their kids in the car intentionally, or when they accidently forget about them.  The same question runs over and over my head: how can people forget about their child? I mean wouldn't the child be making some type of noise? Or even if he/she was asleep I feel like they could still make some breathing noises or you can sometimes just feel the presence of someone else.  I have locked my keys in a car before and I feel extremely mad, but I notice right away.  So I do understand accidents happen--even though keys don't compare to a child--but I believe a child should be important enough to not be forgotten.  So for those that are common to forget about things this heat guard seat would be a good idea.
The heat guard should be a good way to notify the parents when they have forgotten about them and for those parents who left them on purpose, I like how it will notify police or higher authorities.  This way it will scare the parents/guardians a little bit and it will prevent them from leaving their child behind in the car.  The group seemed well organized and definitely well informed.  Good presentation!

I really like the idea of heat guard. While children dying in cars isn’t the most common death I think there should be a way to save children who have been accidentally left in a car. I think that this product would be easily accepted by many parents and the eventual idea of it becoming more built in the car is another way to ensure that more parents get this system in their cars. They used plenty of statistics throughout their presentation of Heat Guard. I was surprised that the majority of states do not have a law against leaving children in cars unattended. Children are so helpless especially at the age where it is so common and the idea of it alerting both the police and the parents is a good idea because there are probably times where parents would not answer their phone fast enough because cars get hot so quickly that having the police involved as a backup is a good safety net. I also like the idea of extending it out to pets because of the more recent adaptions of laws against leaving pets in hot cars this would hopefully eliminate the amount of pet death as well and decrease the damage done to people’s car in attempt to save either the pet of the child. I think it is more common to leave a pet in the car because you cannot always take them inside with you so the idea of heat guard monitoring the car temperature would be good in case you are ever caught in predicament where you need to run inside a store and leave your pet in the car because this would ensure that the app would notify you when the car got to hot. My only concern is malfunctions in the app or system in cases where the police are notified because if a system malfunctioned and said there was a child in the car but there wasn’t there is the potentially of alerting police and wasting resources in addition with this app they should change the law for leaving children in the car because people who use this are doing it in the interest of their child.
