Catfished

In class, we watched the catfish movie, where Nev was dating this person online and had a relationship with this person but comes to find out that this person is not what they said they were and basically lie about almost everything to Nev. Why would a person do that? Go all the way to try to be someone who they are not and be in a serious relationship with lies. I think this documentary raises a some questions on if this is okay to do online. Some people may say that this person had a lot of reason to do this or they had problems and wanted a relationship to help with that. Others may say what about the other person? Is it okay to play with their emotions like that? Being someone who they thought to be real but wasn't actually the person who they said they were. I think that it is wrong for people to do this. This is another person who can feel and emote like themselves. Why do that to another people? They could be ruining this other person's life and could ruin their own life with the lies.
I also watched a little bit of the television series of this movie and it amazes me how other people could just lie like this and go on doing this for however long they did it for. It is like if people gave you something and it turned out to be something that you did not ask for. People may think that it is just a screen they are talking to and that it does not have feelings like them but that is not the case. I can see that they may want to do this to make them feel better about themselves. A lot of the episodes in the catfish series were with people that have emotional instabilities in their lives and wanted someone to make them feel better but I do not think this is the best way to deal with this. I think that this just creates other problems and leads to more people having issues in their lives. They need to get the support they need, not from a computer screen or other devices that involve lies like this. It will just create more problems on top of the other problems they may be facing in their life. It may be hard but doing this and lying about who they are may cause more problems than they might not be able handle and could cause them to ruin their own lives with this lie.
