Be Right Back

In the Netflix show we watched "Black Mirror" we experienced the uncanny valley with Martha. In the beginning of the show we noticed how attached Ash was to his phone. He was always getting lost in it and didn’t really pay much attention to Martha. Most of the things that Ash didn't post online were his feelings and thoughts. The show didn't really tell us how Ash died but I felt like it was because he was on his phone while driving. After he died, Martha’s friend wanted to sign her up for this website that let her talk to the computer Ash but at the time, Martha didn’t think it was right until she actually started talking to him. She was grieving in an unhealthy way when she started talking to Ash #2 because she knew it really wasn’t him but she didn’t want to move on from him. I feel like the only reason she didn’t want to stop talking to it, was because it sounded so much like him and she didn’t want to let him go. She became so obsessed with talking to it, that she distanced herself from her friends and family. I think distancing herself from them made her even more obsessed because Ash #2 was the only one she had to talk to. Once she found out that she could actually get the android version of Ash, she did it and she didn’t care about the cost but when she actually got him and activated him she didn’t understand how similar he was to the real Ash. In some areas, he was like Ash because he had all of Ash’s emails, post, anything public he posted, he was basically the digital version of Ash but the real Ash was completely different than the digital version. Some things Ash posted weren’t really what he felt. Ash #2 was basically a “perfect” version of Ash #1, Martha didn’t want that after a while because Ash #2 got to the point where he was too similar to Ash #1 but it wasn’t him. Ash #2 got as close as Ash #1 with the moles and that’s when Martha started to get tired of him because he was too much like him but not him. Especially when Martha told him to jump off the cliff and he was about to but she knew Ash #1 wouldn’t just jump because she told him too. After that, I guess she continued with her life, had her baby and just made Ash #2 live in the attic like Ash’s mom put all her deaths in the family in the attic to forget about the mistake.
