We have all heard the saying “Let the dead Rest In Peace” , in the film Be Right Back, Martha does the total opposite, by bringing her boyfriend back to life in the form of a Robot. Ash, her beloved boyfriend, suffered from a horrible accident and died. Martha could not grief his loss and had no other choice but to try a new online service which allows you to speak to your loved one. This is done by using Ash’s past online communications and Social media. The online service records and mimics the way Ash used to communicate and is able to communicate with Martha with Ash’s voice. As time goes by, Martha makes herself believe that she’s truly talking to her deceased Boyfriend, she tells her phone (Ash) almost every detail she could possibly think off: Her pregnancy, the location where Ash would take her on dates and even words that Ash would say on a daily basis. This goes on for weeks but one day , Martha drops her phone and loses communication with “Ash”. She immediately goes back home and gets a hold of Fake Ash again. Soon, she discovers another way to stay in touch with Ash in a more realistic way. She buys a artificial body that particularly looks and sounds exactly like Ash.
This is where my title for this post arises, the artificial Ash is only a robot made of synthetic flesh that mimics and appears as the real Ash. Shouldn’t this “object” be classified as the Living dead? We all know that the real Ash is dead but is brought back to life as a walking Robot. Were Martha’s Actions Righteous or Not? I personally also believe that the dead should be left in peace no matter how much the grieving process takes. Letting things go and moving on is what make us humans. But someone that brings or buys robots for the intentions of having a loved back back is an unforgivable act. The artificial Ash will never replace the Real Ash no matter how closely related he looks or acts. We notice this when Martha chooses to keep Robot Ash up in the Attic when she realizes that she will never love it as much as she did the real Ash. Throughout the film , we see that the artificial Ash does not know everything there is to know about the Real Ash. Martha has to constantly remind him of what Ash use to do or say. She has to remind him to Breathe and show emotion, which is a human characteristic. I believe Martha had a hard time getting use to the artificial Ash because deep down she will always know that Ash is dead.

I find it interesting that you view Ash2 as Ash1 being brought back to life, but I would have to disagree. Ash2 may look and sound like Ash1 but he only has a piece of Ash1's life. Also, I find that Ash2 treats Martha very differently than Ash1 did so I view Ash2 as a completely different person.
I totally agree with this
