Boycott Connect- Heather Clevenger

Boycott Connect is a idea that I hold dear to my heart. It also brought to light some things about some companies that I, personally, regularly use. After reading this, I am more likely to take my business elsewhere. I am absolutely disgusted by the companies that I once trusted and was a house hold name in my home

Boycott Connect wants us to stop giving our money to companies that do nothing but harm nature, or take advantage of people who either have little to no choice in the matter or people who are not educated about what they are getting themselves into when they sign up for trials or even just buying new products or medications.

Boycott Connect's mission is to "deconstruct the apathy that takes hold of companies that seek only to inflate their bottom line, regardless of the suffering that they inflict upon others."

Slavery and Child Labor- In America, slavery has been abolished and child labor has become illegal, though that is not the case in other countries and some companies not only take advantage of the cheap to free labor, "they're facilitating said practices." Hershey's is a well know and often a house hold name of chocolate products that have been using slaved labor to gather their cocoa beans in order to make their chocolates. It is more than likely that other well known chocolate companies have done the same in order to minimize cost and maximize profits.

Environmental Crimes- As Industries increase or grow, so then do environmental devastations such as deforestation, polluted waters, and harmful chemicals released into the atmosphere. While it is common knowledge that BP had a massive oil spill back in 2010, people may not know that BP only had to pay a fine of $20.8 billion or that 10% of the oil spilled has settled to the bottom where it can not be retrieved (Boycott Connect).

Crimes Against Humanity- Where do I even begin with this one? Bayer and Nestle take advantage of an uneducated public with trails of dangerous medications, false advertising and use public policy to their advantage. These actions can directly lead to the harm, or in worse case scenario, death, to people. Nestle used false advertisement and purposefully withheld information from mothers. This lead to the death of infants due to drinking contaminated water or malnutrition. Bayer, instead of discarding properly or sterilizing contaminated blood with HIV and AIDS, sold contaminated blood products to "hemophiliacs in Asian and Latin American countries," (Boycott Connect).
