My Thoughts on C.H.A.T

C.H.A.T is without a doubt a technological solution to a contemporary moral issue. Rape on college campuses is undeniably a problem, and a common problem at that. The features of this app give almost every option for a victim of rape, whether they are willing to speak to someone about what happened or wish to remain anonymous when talking about what has happened to them. Either way, this provides a solution to a common problem that victims often find themselves in with no solution or way to turn to. Targeting college students is a really good idea, because often times college students are in a sort of community and can tend to be close knit. This leaves little room for feeling comfortable about speaking out about something like this that may have happened to someone. So, I think making it accessible only for college students definitely gives more of a safe feeling to this victims when speaking out. I think the resources off campus also help with this. Like I said earlier, this app seems to cover victims in all stages, and in this case it would cover someone who is not comfortable speaking to someone on campus. I feel like this would be more of an occurrence than not. If this happened to someone on campus in a place they are at everyday, and would be seen everyday after speaking out, it might make them more comfortable for the future to speak with someone off the campus. Despite all these features and options for someone who has suffered from the crime of rape, it is nevertheless a crime. I did agree with the discussion in class, on whether there should be a "Report" option. Rape definitely should be treated as a crime first, before it is treated in this way. I don't mean to undermine the importance of these features at all. In fact, this is probable a more important step to dealing with a situation like this. But I do not think it should be first, and I think users of this app should be encouraged to treat it as a crime. Granted, many of these users may have already reported it and are taking the next steps, in which case is a understandable and healthy way of continuing the process. With the addition of this feature, I think C.H.A.T will be an even more useful and much needed application for college students.
