Free Flo- Heather Clevenger

Free Flo is a concept to get femmine hygiene products to women in need every. "In 2013, more than 1 in 7 women live in poverty" (nwlc. org/poverty data) which mean some of those women who live below the poverty line might have to choose between feeding their children or themselves and femmine hygiene products for 5-7 days every single month.

The idea and mission of free flo is "... provide FREE feminine hygiene products in poverty. We aim to provide these products while also informing others of the situation of many homeless women."
This is a great idea. I myself have never thought about what homeless women do during the time of the month where mother nature gives them a, sometimes painful but always bloody (meant to sound gross by the way), gift. So this concept really does bring awareness to me that not every women can afford the $8 to $15, depending on the number of products within, box of pads or tampons.

Free Flo works by 20% of the money they make from their Free Flo store returns to them and they use the money to buy feminine hygiene products and donate them to the 35 locations (just here in Memphis) have on their map in their app and on their website. There are many places all over the city so that women in need will have places close to them to receive feminine hygiene products from. This is great because if these women can not afford to buy tampons and pads, then it is more than likely that they will not have transportation to go to said places to receive said products. Also, along with the map in the app that locates places where one can receive feminine hygiene products, they also have a sticker outside the locations of all partnering companies.

while the product is through apps and the website, women can go to their local library to use their computers in order to use the Freels Flo website to find locations and to learn more about their mission and what they are.

Free Flo makes a difference in the lives of women living in poverty but they also spotlight local candy makers to also help the community. With 35 locations in Memphis alone at places like Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, McDonald's, Places of Worship, Community Centers and Colleges/ Universitys, it is easier than ever for women living below the poverty line to receive the feminine hygiene products that they need and not have to choose between them or feeding themselves or their children.
