"Be Right Back"

Having never seen the show before this past Wednesday, or any show similar to it for that matter, I found it to be very interesting yet also extremely strange. I actually really hate technology if I am being completely honest, but there are several pros and cons to the advancements being made. Black Mirror gave an incredibly awkward example of what it would be like to lose a loved one in the future. Technology that was available in Martha's world made it to where your loved one could basically still be with you in the event that they left the physical world. However, there were several differences between the real Ash (Ash 1) and the AI Ash (Ash 2) which made it difficult for Martha to accept having Ash 2.
First off, I do believe that the whole idea of creating a replica, in a way, of your late loved one is without-a-doubt a terrible idea. My point being how would you be able to completely cope with their death and then grieve properly? You would not be able to. If you're still in contact with them, even if it technically is not really them, they still have many characteristics of them. You will not be able to get over the idea that they are actually gone and I think that Martha presented that in the end when her daughter went into the attic to share her birthday cake. Something about her facial expression led me to believe that maybe she isn't just thinking about how she is stuck with Ash 2. I think it was more of a grieving expression showing that she still has not coped with Ash one's death.
The second thing I would like to cover and to possibly get feedback from others on, is the fact that she stuck him in the attic. I don't quite understand why she did that. There were theories going around in class that maybe since she could not "kill" him, she stuck him up there so that no one could find out about him. That would be a fair assumption to me. But what about the daughter? Kids talk about anything and even though she's older now, I would think that she would have accidentally slipped up at some point and mentioned having someone in the attic to others. I do not have much of a theory on that scene myself, so other theories or explanations would be greatly appreciated!

Bri, I agree with your statement on it being very strange to create the fake robot version of Ash. I think also that coping with his death if it ever happened would be very strange because it's just not realistic. The point is that the whole process does not really add up to make much logical sense. We also do not even know the outcome if he were to be harmed, and if he would actually die or not since he is not real.

Hey Bri. As you mentioned in your final paragraph, you were not really sure why Martha locked Ash 2 in the attic at the end of the episode. As I mentioned in my own blog post, I believe there was a specific reason for why she did it. Early in the episode Ash 1 mentioned that his mom use to put boxes of pictures of their deceased relatives in the attic to try and help her with the heart-break of losing a loved-one. So I believe that is what Martha was thinking about when she decided to lock Ash 2 in the attic for 10 years.
