In Black Mirrors episode, the “White Bear” we see a woman
named Victoria wake up with an extreme headache not knowing who she is or what
is happening. She wonders around her house trying to figure out what is going
on because she cannot remember anything. Instead all she gets are flashbacks of
a man and a young girl who she presumes is her daughter, but we later find out
the girl that appears in her flashbacks is the girl who she recorded getting
tortured by her fiancé.
We could say that White Bear appears to be a theme park
because at the end of the episode we see a line of cars trying to park and
Baxter goes over the parks rules and emphasizes to the participants that they
should have fun which is the most important rule.
The fact that Victoria has to
relive the same day various times seems a bit cruel for the simple fact that
she is meant to relive the same day until presumably she dies. This form of
punishment is extreme because although she committed a terrible crime by being
an accomplice to a child murder, and recording it without helping her I think
that the Victoria that is undergoing this punishment is not the same Victoria
who committed the crime. What I mean by this is that since Victoria’s memory
gets erased everyday it could possibly affect the person who she is because she technically does not know what she did and instead all she knows is what she is experiencing in that day. The punishment of not knowing what is going
on and being recorder by bystanders and not having anyone to aid Victoria could
be a symbolism of how Jemima felt when she was in custody of Victoria and her fiancé.
It could be possible that if this is what the future is like, criminals might
be exposed to something similar to what we see in this episode as a form of
punishment.

when you say that this type of punishment is what could be done in our future i cant help but agree with you. I feel as if we are going to become like the people in this episode and lose our sympathy for others.
