Why couldn’t Martha let Ash stay dead? Before Ash died he was addicted to technology, and Martha hated it. Once he died, Martha becomes obsessed with technology as well. Her change of heart upset me because she spent most of the beginning of the episode yelling at him using his phone. Her addiction to technology gets worse as the episode goes on. I was uncomfortable as she decided to start messaging him, and she kept going from there. I did not like the software that allowed her to talk to Ash because the need to download everything about him bothered me. The software takes important and heartfelt memories and changes them into an algorithm. Her friend that signs her up says, “the more it has, the more it is him.” To even call Ash, she has to upload more personal videos of him. Martha becomes so engrossed with talking to the software that she has a meltdown from just dropping her phone. She acts irrationally over a cellphone. I didn’t like how she spent money to get an Ash robot especially after she spent money on a funeral. It is redundant. Also, the whole process creating Ash 2 made me uneasy. The adding of electrolytes is too similar to replenishing electrolytes for humans. Ash 2 also ruined baths for me because a bath is where the average person regenerates. Once he activates, he looks like a kid and it is not natural. The real Ash had a beard and did not appear so creepy. In the backstory, Ash could not please all of Martha’s needs but the robot could. The longevity of the robot is weird because it is unnatural to have sex with technology. My problems with his bedroom activity get worse as he does sleep and he does not breathe. He ruins her bedside manner because he does not act human. He mimics Ash 1 instead of being a copy. Many times in the episode Martha tells Ash 2 to go away or says no and he does not listen. He proceeds to ignore her as he cannot comprehend or respond to her emotions correctly. He is too willing to please her to where he ignores what she really wants and tries to assume. He is only human when he does not inflict self-harm or hit her back. Overall, the technology that created Ash 2 was only acceptable in the cloud. Once Ash 2 was activated, it was wrong and creepy.

I agree with you that it's only acceptable in the cloud but beyond the cloud was disturbing. Though it downloaded Ash's memories, the cloud was just an AI chatbot. There weren't any human characteristics that could have fed her attachment to it until they spoke on the phone. That's when it became more life-like. Activating Ash 2 was going too far since it's a way of replacing Ash. I don't think I could ever bring myself to do that.
I also agree with you. I felt that her obsession to bring back Ash was unhealthy and a huge disrespect to his death.
I think the reason for which she moved past the idea of obsession with technology being wrong, is because Ash was so fond of it. I believe it was quite possibly a way for her to be just a little closer to him even in death.
This episode really made me uncomfortable because she replaced him with a robot basically. I agree that all the things Martha did and the whole process was creepy but also you have to think about how you would feel if you lost someone you loved too. Love can make you do crazy things sometimes. However, I do agree that all that she did was wrong because she tried to replace him which was disrespectful.
