Ash 2: The Real Black Mirror

I think we can all agree that Ash 2 is a little creepy. In the show, we know that Ash 2 is not human, but in fact an android made to look like Ash1, who is definitely dead in the show. As outlined by the uncanny valley, this is a completely normal and predicted response. Ash 2 definitely resembles a human, however, we know that he is not actually human. This would qualify him to be on the bottom of the uncanny valley, meaning that he creeps humans out because he looks like a human, but is not actually human. He is s robot trying to pass as a human Ash 2 looks exactly like Ash 1, and he even acts for the most part like Ash 1. Ash 2 has all the information that Ash 1 posted online, and he can calculate what response Ash 1 would have had to certain situations. In the show, Martha says that there are things that Ash 2 says there are exactly what Ash 1 would have said. So Ash 2 is a mirror of Ash 1. However that mirror has some black spots. Ash 2 is not Ash 1, as Ash 2 only knows what Ash 1 posted online, so when confronted with things that Ash 1 did not post about, Ash 2 does not know how to act, as seen when he is asked to jump off the cliff. Since Ash 1 never posted about such things, Ash 2 does not know how to act in a manner that Ash 1 would have until he is told how Ash 1 would have actually acted. Ash 2 also definitely shows signs of not being human, which makes him creepy as well. When asked if he wants food, he replies that he does not need to eat. When bedtime hits, Ash 2 just stares at the ceiling since he does not need to sleep. These things taint the mirrored image of Ash 1 that Ash 2 is trying to display, leaving the mirror black. I think that this is exactly where the name of the show comes from. It portraits exactly what we feel about Ash 2 and what he represents in terms of "reflecting" Ash 1.
