The Nirvana presentation in class was truly a great learning experience and also an emotional one. The group was very informative and creative and had great evidence of their statements to really help support them. The presentation began with them explaining about anxiety and how it is not just one type of it. After that they went in to further detail about the different types, their meanings, and statistics about anxiety to prove that its no small disorder and it is not easy to fix. Before moving on to another disorder a student even gave pros and cons of anxiety by using herself as an example and how it can help and hurt you in situations. The presentation then moved to stress and how it going untreated could jump start medical problems like heart disease, high blood pressure, and in some cases death. The group then introduced Autism and how it is the fastest growing metal disorder in 2008. They also included a moving video clip in their presentation to help support their cause. Lastly in the slides they talked about the big one, depression. They gave a broad definition of it and then went into detail about the five different types and how they affect people. Personally this presentation stands out to me because some of my family members do suffer from a few of these disorders. Learning about the statistics and overviews of these disorders better helped me understand what they may by going through and how I can help them in the future if their illness continued to get worse.
Moving on to their website is what I believe to be the best one out of all the presentations. They created Nirvana to be a place where people who suffer from the disorders they discussed can go to. It has quote of the week and quick tip on its home page followed by the website stating its mission for its visitors of it. Also on the home page is a section that says positive news about upcoming events and dozens of pictures, memes, and funny videos to relieve stress and provide humor. Nirvana also features a variety of stress relieving games and chill music to really soothe the brain and give it something positive to think about while dealing with stress or any of the disorders stated in the presentation. They even have a soliloquy tab and an advice section where people can go to in order to obtain encouraging words and motivation in their lives. Lastly, there is a page where you can meet the team behind this great project and their contribution. Overall this project was outstanding and their idea to implicate this for students at our school and potentially other schools is a great way to spread positivity.
