The Smiley Project Review

The Smiley Project is something that will help college students help each other and connect through a forum-like website. The project is national so the idea is that any student from any college can create an account. The creators are trying to integrate student ID's so that the site will guarantee only college members to be able to join since trolls and other people that won't use the website correctly will be able to join. The site is a way for students to post notes and lectures for those who perhaps miss a lesson and have no way to access the professor or have anxiety about asking the professor to provide information about what they missed. The creators of the project highly stressed that their goal for the project was to help people who missed days of class. CBU itself costs quite a bit of money and if you miss one class that's almost $30 wasted. Many people miss class simply because they aren't getting enough sleep or they think that the class is a waste of time because they aren't learning anything new or it's just too boring. The project will help people find the information on the classes they attend in an attempt to possibly teach themselves the information if the class is too boring or gain more information about the topic that the professor maybe never mentioned.

Of course, there are some worries about the site. Plagiarism will most likely happen and it will take only a few short moments for the information posted to get out to the whole world. People can record ensure lectures and post them which is unfair for professors. Plagiarism is hard to stop and happens all the time, but maybe this website will make it more likely to happen. It could be easy for test answers to be posted, but the user who posts it can have serious punishments rained down on them which is a harsh punishment for doing something with little benefit for the person doing it.

The messaging addition will be an easy way to speak to people and get to know someone to create a sort of buddy system that will help those in the same classes so they can even form a study group or exchange notes, etc. The possibility of the site becoming a possible dating site isn't really likely to me personally since people enjoy communication since we are social creatures and using the site exclusively to seek out romantic relationships, is highly unlikely.  All in all, I think this is a very good idea and I wouldn't be surprised if I saw it becoming a reality.
