Cultured Cooking
Our final group came up with the idea Cultured Cooking. They
began with background information on all the different races that live in Memphis,
Tennessee as well as some of their income levels. With their idea they wanted
to use all the different backgrounds located in Memphis to use food as a common
ground where everyone could bond because who doesn’t love food. With Cultured Cooking
people could make an account online and subscribe to their meal plans. With the
subscription a person would pay around 50 dollars a month and they would receive
4 boxes a month. The boxes would contain a recipe of a breakfast, lunch, dinner,
or dessert that is commonly eaten in the country of the month. The box would
also contain the ingredients needed to make this recipe while also containing
background information on the food and the country of the month. The bonus
about the boxes is that when one person buys a box another family of low income
receives a free box as well. The organization would work with different food
distributers to find a way to make the boxes more inexpensive. On their website
even if you are not subscribed to get a box you can find the recipes handed out
in their previous boxes. On the website you could also recommend recipes that
is popular in your culture. People in the community could also talk to each
other about the food as well as culture festivals they have attended close to
the area.
The presentation and the idea that the final group had was
very good and well executed. Though it was very good there were some minor
problems that we discussed about in class. One thing that was mentioned was
that maybe 50 dollars would not be enough to make four boxes but maybe it would
be possible to make one. Otherwise the group said that they could partner with
food distributers to find inexpensive ways to find the ingredients needed.
Another problem was that most people would not like the food, be allergic, or not
be able to eat it because of their religion or food style like vegan,
vegetarian, etc.. To fix the problem the group said that they would offer
different recipe options. If none of the different recipes suit the person than
they can always unsubscribe for the month.
