Second Win

Second Win is an organization/program that would thrive to help the homeless get their life back on track. They would provide some type of housing for them, transportation services, food, etc of the such and give them the help and support that they need.

I like the idea that this group thought of a way to go above and beyond for homeless people, however I agree with Dr. J about homeless people simply needing a home. Without a home, You honestly don't have anything. You have no place to shower, no place to eat, no place to sleep, and etc of the such.

But I also see why these group members would think to provide all of these services, because what if they do have a home, but they have no water, no light, no bed, no nothing, just a home. Without the essentials, it doesn't make it a home, it makes it feel more like an empty space.

Another thing that think is that homeless people may be a bit complicated to deal with. There are some who are sane, others who are drug addicts, and etc of the such. I feel like this program should consider a type of rehab for those who are suffering from a mental disorder or addiction etc. That would mean more money, but that's why there are ways to raise money, they could do car washes, sell home goods, and etc. I like the idea of having people, who experienced this program, come back and talk about how Second Win really turned their life upside down. I think it helps having someone who can relate to their issues inspire them that life does get better as long as you fight against the obstacles.

The only thing that threw me off was the app that the people would have access too and check to see their points and stuff. How would a homeless person have access to that when they literately only have the bare minimum? I don't recall ever seeing a homeless person hold up a sign that says I need money to pay my phone bill, or something around the lines. I DO THINK that it is a great idea for those that may have a phone, but what about the many that don't? They won't get to keep track of their points or anything that was provided on the app. Maybe finding an alternative for this that sort of follows along the lines, such as someone going along with them to an interview or having a few phones. Nothing too expensive, something minor that allows them to check it out during the time of their interview, so that they can use it if need be, and then check it right back in when they get back to the center. I think that would be kinda cool, but again, money would be essential for this idea.
