Be Right Back:

Be Right Back is a film that is honestly very confusing and disturbing. Everything was fine at the beginning of the film. They seemed like a really happy couple who had just moved into their new- yet not new home.. and then horrible news strikes at Martha's door....

I honestly have no idea why Ash passed away. But if I were to assume, he probably jumped off of the cliff due to depression. I assume this because Martha stated that Ash had said that the cliff was a famous lovers leap that couples jumped into their death in Victorian times, then robot Ash said that everyone who ever jumped from that cliff did it alone. Maybe living in his childhood home wasn't good for him, or maybe depression hit him hard when he saw his childhood picture and it reminded him that his mother only had him, due to his dad and brother's passing. Or, maybe he was texting and driving and crashed. Who knows?

Another thing that I wanted to point out is the fact that Ash was always on his phone? Could it be that he was also coping with grief the same way that Martha was days after he died? Of course, he didn't go all out and spend a lot of money to get a robot to look exactly like his brother and his father, but maybe he was communicating with them via messages, etc.

Personally, I don't think that it's a good idea to make apps, or robots out of people, especially those who passed into the Afterlife. It'll make it really hard for people, just like Martha, to deal with real grieving. They will eventually run into complications of what's real and what's not. Or end up like Martha, somewhere deep down inside she knows that he isn't really there and that it's just a replica of him. It may look like him, sound like him, feel real, and all of these other things, but at the end of the day, his actions won't be the same. For example, when she told Ash to get out of the room, he instantly decided to leave but Martha stated that Ash wouldn't really leave her alone.

I think that having a robot replace your loved one, or a friend, etc is honestly a really bad idea.

Honestly did not think of suicidal tendencies in Ash. Maybe I should have payed more attention. I was under the impression that he died in a car crash. Who knows. Anyway, I absolutely agree with you. I don't like the thought of mimicking people's thoughts. Sets up a worrying premise for sure.
