In the documentary catfish, I believe that Angela doesn't deserve any sympathy. Her life is hard, don't get me wrong, but what she did to Nev was honestly harsh. She led him to believe for months that Meghan (Angela) was the love of his life, and that they were perfect for each other. He fell so hard for a girl that was made up and when he found out he was completely shocked and devastated.
We clearly saw his reaction in the documentary, the man was ready to shed some tears in all honesty. The fact that he confronted her about it and she continued to lie about the situation was really low of her. At that point I honestly had no idea if she was telling the truth or not about anything. Then, she pulled out the Cancer card.... then the Alzheimer's card like why would you say such a thing. In the documentary, she stated that she honestly doesn't regret choosing this lifestyle, which meant taking care of two special need children that weren't completely hers, and her daughter and living in the middle of no where in a small cramped house, and painting at a low level, which she knew because the only way she was managing to get attention on her paintings was to lie about it and drag her daughter into it.. which was also extremely crappy of her to do. Like dragging your kids into your mess is honestly so irresponsible. Back to her being okay with her lifestyle, I'm almost 100% sure that she also lied about that. If it was true that she was okay living like that, she wouldn't have gone out of her way to make up several people online and pretend to be someone that she's not.
She clearly wasn't happy about the way her life turned out to be, and continued to be a liar even after the documentary, throughout interviews she would continue to say things that weren't true.
I just don't think that she deserves any type of sympathy or that we should try to understand her situation, if she wasn't being honest or tried to understand Nev's feelings towards the situation. She obviously didn't care if he was hurt or not if she kept lying to him.
If I was Nev, I would've blocked her from Facebook... just sayin.

I agree with you for the most part. I understand that even though someone had a hard life that doesn't give them the right to cause harm onto others. One thing that I don't agree with you is towards the end where you say that we shouldn't try to understand her situation.
Under the consideration that by "her situation" being that she is living in a not so fabulous lifestyle that she "willingly wants" then yes I agree. I think that if you took away all of the extra information about Angela other than her creating a web of lies and personas for the sake of tricking this one man, no one would treat this woman with sympathy.
If you are talking about her situation as to why she would attempt Catfishing, then we would have to disagree. I feel like it is the best prevention of something is to know why people turn to that action and how to best accommodate that feeling with better actions that don't harm anyone.
I believe that you do make a good point about her ill-deserved sympathy. After being caught, she just wanted attention, so she continued to lie to keep it going. I understand the motives behind her actions, but I can't say that it was right. She played him like a video game, and she lost
