In class we watched the original catfish documentary. Some elements of the film were unexpected and surprised me. The overall purpose of it is to be cautious of people on the internet. This film taught lots of people to be weary of others on the web. But the lesson that we also concluded to was that try to create a different persona on socials from reality. This I can understand because no one is perfect but we all try to seem better than we are, or seem to harbor less problems on social media. But this theory is different than what happened in the documentary. In the film Angela created multiple personas in the pursuit to fool someone and that isn't acceptable. Through some aspects I can understand why she did it for an escape from the reality. Her life was pretty tough but just because I understand doesn't mean it's appropriate. We all want to be better and want our dreams to come true. This is something Angela sort of intended to pursued but kinda fell from. I can understand with lack of self-esteem, and an unhappy life can be the start of depression. That's why an escape is needed we all have an escape some peoples are just more extreme than others. For example my escapes are soccer and music, but some people do drugs to escape the grips of life. I think we try to perfect ourselves via social media to impress ourselves as well as others. In the sense of look what I could accomplish and capable of. It gives us a vision of our "true selves" the people we feel that we want to be and we truly are deep down omitting the restrictions of the world.
I believe that we should just accept ourselves as we are restrictions and all. This will I believe give us respect for ourselves and motivation to get to where we want to be. What I don't understand is why Angela didn't motivate herself she created beautiful art but didn't use that time for something she loved the most dancing. I believe that we all kinda do this complain or substitute what we want to do with something else, Angela really wanted to dance and draw but she used all her time fooling nev.
Another topic was discussed in class what makes a person a person I think the personality of someone manifested from their experiences of the world. This is why what she did was wrong because she gave nev false experience giving the illusion that it was real.

I was also confused as to why she didn't dedicate her time to dancing when she dedicated it to art. Obviously, it wasn't giving her the same type of outlet because she would do paintings of Nev's photos, which were most often photos of dancers, so I don't know why she didn't decide to take a dance class here or there. Sadly, I'm led to believe that she didn't because she had to take care of the two boys, to which I was under the impression that it was only her who took care of them, never her husband. At some point though, she should've put her foot down and told her husband to take care of the kids while she pursued dance.
