Justice? Up to interpretation

This week we watch another episode of the series called black mirror, and in this episode called white bear this woman is being repeatedly punished for recording the abuse and murder of a child. At first her punishment would seem justified because she is put into the same conditions, confusion and  terror, as the little girl. But it all seems sadistic when it is learned how the punishment is being executed, as a play  with audience interaction. Also what seems to be the worse part is that her memory is wiped clean every day so she is effectively punished each and every day. This is the part I find morally controversial because some people believe it's just and others such as myself believe it is an extreme punishment.
I believe this is extreme because it it is repeatedly done every day. I think this action would make the punishment punitive because it seems purely to avenge the girl not for rehabilitation for Victoria. I think the just thing to do would be to probably to do the punishment once then give her time in jail to digest the feeling and reflect. This will allow her to have the same experience and be able to fully know her role in it and regret it. This will give her a chance to change her ideology and her actions.
In class we discussed a theory that if they keep erasing her memory and she doesn't fully know herself or her crime that theoretically they are punishing an innocent person. I believe that this is accurate because she technically is not the same person that committed the crime. I also believe that they could erase her memory and just give her an alternate persona and alter it to where she doesn't perform acts she would allow in her original persona. Either of the solutions I have talked about would be fine with me but I can see how the whole new persona thing can also be controversial.
The punishment mainly the play part of it is also controversial because they have a whole park dedicated to it. They also have people pay to go participate in these activities. I believe that because the people pay to participate that they are kinda sadistic because they would spend money resources they need to participate like how families participate in the purge in the movies.
There was also a discussion about whether this punishment would discourage people from committing crimes such as the one Victoria committed and I think it would. I think at the site of this that people would fear the same punishment every day and not know it while their life is wasting away. I know I wouldn't commit a heinous crime to avoid this treatment.
