Pantry Vending
I think Pantry Vending is a very bright idea that can help many people. I think that having an easily accessible point of access to receive nutritional items is very considerate and unique compared to the many donation centers already out there. I think that the idea or intention to keep this as a low-key type of service is very considerate and open minded that there are people out there that seek help but are too ashamed to ask for it. My only concern with that though, would be that if it is kept to much of a low-key and discrete type of thing, then there is a concern that many people wouldn't know about the Pantry Vending services. How would the people that aren't constantly seeking help because they are afraid of how people will perceive them come upon this machine. On that note, I totally understand how and why people are embarrassed to be seen receiving aid in life, BUT I do also think that when life is hitting you that hard you shouldn't be afraid of judgment because I think getting things you need to survive should be far more important. Like how badly are you really struggling if you are turning down help. I really do understand the shame and the fear that people must experience when new to the situation but I don't think it should ever get in between the chances of bettering your life. I know this has nothing to do with the groups presentation but it is something that ran through my mind when brought up at the end. Overall, for the complexity of how it would be socially structured I think this was a very thoughtful and thought out project. I understand that coming up with such a machine and idea can be hard because it requires much research to figure out exactly how much food is going to be distributed to how many people. The idea itself is great but with much more research and taking many other factors into consideration this could potentially be the next way to help distribute food for those in need. The only criticism I have would be to work on what the actual vending machine would like. I know there was a model in the presentation but it wasn't very presentable. BUT STILL, A GREAT IDEA!!
