Raping A Rapist

After watching the episode "White Bear" I felt like everything that was done to Victoria was deserved. Towards the end of the punishment, it was said that the reason why Victoria did these things and did not help was that she was "under his spell". Many women do feel like they are under someone's spell and too scared to do something. I feel like Victoria was being selfless in not helping the girl that was brutally tortured and burned alive. Victoria could have intervened and helped the child when she was recording everything that was happening. I believe that these "amusement parks" should happen to people who commit brutal crimes like the one in the episode. Victoria wasn't treated as bad as I would have expected her to be treated. Victoria would possibly experience some health problems in the future with the memory eraser but if it was my choice I would just leave that part out so she can remember the brutal stuff she made the little girl go through. Seeing someone being punished just like Victoria might help others see what can potentially happen to them in case they do something wrong or even worse. I feel that if someone tortures a person it should happen to them and the punishment should be an eye for an eye and they should get tourted. If a man decides to rape a person they should get raped so they can feel the same exact pain that the victim felt. Rapist being raped happens in prison because something so cruel like this deserves more than a certain amount of years in a prison cell. Being in prison doesn't help most people because once your in the system for being a rapist that of being a rapist will stick with you forever. Rapist should be punished just as bad as they punished the victim so they can rethink their actions just in case they think about repeating what they did. People would argue that the death penalty is enough for punishment. But during this process, the criminal wouldn't feel anything the same way they euthanize a dog. During that process, the criminal won't feel as much pain as the victim. Stoning criminals were done when a criminal did something wrong. Stoning the criminal would cause the criminal pain because of the rocks that were thrown at the person. But now punishment is considered throwing someone in a cell for a couple of years. Rapists and murders should be punished just as bad as the victim was punished or even worse. Men and women who commit horrible crimes can be thrown into a special type of prison where they can be treated how they treated the victim.

I had this exact mindset when watching the film however, I had to come to realize a few things in my justification. Would you be okay with a system allowing a professional rapist rape other rapists? It does seem like justice at first but what if it gets out of hand? You can't really punish somebody for something the system pays the person to do. That goes for murderers, robbers, and other criminals. As our philosophy professor stated, What if the person who doesn't know who she is (of course Victoria) isn't the same person as the original Victoria. She is completely unaware of her actions. I'm not downing you for your comment, because I had the complete same thought as well but I also want you to look at other perspectives that our philosophy professor showed.

I feel like the eye for an eye justice that you are explaining is deserved though, the little girl only had to endure her pain one and they repeatedly continue to torture Victoria. I feel the continuous punishment is what is wrong with the entire thing.

I believe that eye for an eye is necessary in some situations. However, when does it become too much? We become just as bad as those in the wrong. Sometimes we have to "turn the other cheek" and let karma get them instead of taking it into our own hands.
