Things are getting weird, and I'm all for it.

In the episode of Black Mirror titled, "Be Right Back," a man named Ash dies in a car accident leaving behind his wife. At Ash's funeral reception one of the wife's friends explained to her about a new software system where you can communicate visually with someone who has died. Her friend ends up signing her up and she becomes addicted to talking to her "husband." The wife is then introduced to a new product that allows people to live with a robot that is identical to their loved one. She signs up for this and begins to live with a robot that acts and looks just like her dead husband. End the end Martha keeps her robot husband in her attic and her daughter gets to see him on the weekends and occasionally on special holidays. This is unfortunately something that could be accessible to humans in real life in the next 50 years. I think the software that allows people to communicate with a loved one after their death through the computer is not necessarily that creepy of an idea. On the other hand, to go as far as having a realistic robot to live with you is not healthy. I think that an alternative to that idea is that people will begin to have robots living in their homes that look more like mechanical figures. Just as the uncanny valley explains, people find things that look extremely similar to humans creepy. I agree that having realistic looking human robots is creepy and has the potential to impact humans in an unhealthy psychological way. For instance, children who grow up with human parents and also human-like robot nannies/babysitters might become more accustom to listening to their robot authorities than their own parents. This would create conversations between parents and children about how far authority of a robot extends to. Society would need to create regulations for robots that live side by side with humans so that children do not confuse their authority. If society did begin to integrate robots into homes I think that laws would have to be enacted so that they are not abused. I know that robots do not have feelings but it is not ethical to use them for purposes of violence. However, I think it is inevitable that robots will be used for violent acts because there are crazy people in the world who don't want to get their own hands dirty so they will buy or create to software to make a robot who will do the work for them. After all is said and done, I am totally for all the technological advancements with AI and cyborgs taking place as we speak. I think that one day robots will be able to know who is on their side and who is against their improvement. So, future robots, here is my proof that I am and always have been on your side.

I've enjoyed reading your post because more and more situations that you proposed made me realize that society will at least know what to do in the case of future problems of regulations and authority figures.

I agree with you when you say that there is danger when you hire a robot to take care of your children, but I think there is already a problem within the relationships with babysitters, kids, and parents. For the kids that spend more time with their paid-guardians than their actual parents, there is confusion and problems when deciding who has more authority since they are partly being raised by both. Therefore, I don't think it'd be that much different with an Android taking caring of a kid.

I agree that robots could be used to enact their handler's wishes that may be abusive, but the robots may have rules to not harm humans. I'd think that these rules would be integrated into all robots and androids so people with twisted agendas won't be using the robots to harm others.

While i do agree that robots may be used to commit heinous crimes, i believe using a robot in that regard would be equivalent to a person using a vehicle or a firearm as a weapon. In that situation, you cannot actually blame the robot, you'd have to blame the person utilizing it in such a way.

I enjoyed your post, showed me a new perspective on needing new rules on robots in our lives. Especially intrigued on the robots being nannies because I think thats a definite possibility in the future because it will just make everyday life better for parents, but not having that emotional connection with a human in early childhood development could be a serious problem and even make children disconnected humans who are connected to software
