Eye for an Eye

In the episode, White Bear from the series Black Mirror, tells a story about a woman named Victoria who woke up in a room unable to remember anything. Victoria explores the house and finds a picture of a little girl who she believes is her daughter. She later goes outside and sees there are people recording her. A car pulls up and starts shooting at Victoria and she begins to run, while also confused on why the people recording would not help her. She later finds a couple, Jem and Damien, at a gas station and she begins traveling with them. Throughout the episode, Victoria experiences flashbacks which she believes is helping her remember things. After, Damien is killed the girls begins traveling with Baxter, who was Jem friends. Baxter later turns out to be working for the people who were hunting Victoria. Baxter prepares to kill Victoria and Jem, but Jem escapes and would later come back and rescue Victoria and kill Baxter. Jem tells Victoria about her plan to destroy the White Bear tower to knock out the signal. However, the hunters would arrive at the tower and pretend to fight with Jem, but would later be a surprise to Victoria that she was being set up. The hunters would strap Victoria into a chair and present her to a theatre of people, who are clapping. Victoria would later find out that she recorded a little girl begin killed by her significant other.  The people of the group were actors including the people who were recording. Victoria would later be escorted back to the house and hooked up to a machine that would cause her to lose her memory again. The show describes why it is called White Bear,  the clue left behind was the little girl's white bear

At the beginning, I believed that the concept of the episode was going to be on how in today's society people would rather record a situation than help. Victoria was running and screaming for people to help, but no one would help, but they would rather record. I think intentionally wiping her memory allows for her to feel innocent. Having Victoria think that these people were out to get her for no reason was all part of the plan. They wanted her to feel like the little girl. The girl was an innocent child who was filmed while she was being tortured, likewise Victoria was not aware that she committed a crime, but she was being recorded and would later be tortured by having to be hooked up to the machine that shocks her. To say that Victoria does not deserve this is complete nonsense. She is guilty by association because she knew what her spouse was doing was wrong.

I disagree with the claim that Victoria deserves this type of punishment. If one believes that what she did was wrong then how can one also think that doing the same things to her is right? Agreeing to do it to someone whether or not they have committed a crime is not justice, its torture. I am confused on how torturing someone is the same as justice.

I have to say that I agree and disagree. Yes, she is guilty by association. However, the bystander shouldn't always be punished for what someone else did. She did choose to record instead of help, but society does that a lot today and we choose to ignore it. They all should be held accountable even those who choose to torture her.
