Forgive, not Forget
After watching White Bear in Philosophy, the class got into a pretty heated conversation about the idea of "eye for an eye." So I one hundred percent believe the things they were doing to Victoria in the show is torture. I am all for holding her accountable for her actions and having a punishment but frying her brain isn't the way to get there. Like Dr. J said in class, if she doesn't remember what she did, is she really learning her lesson through this system? I say that this park shouldn't be an idea and definitely no way for people to be able to come and watch her go through this. In no ways am I trying to justify that she is a victim. I also believe that this system would fail anyway for the simple fact, if it had been her fiance in that situation and not her everyone would loose their minds. The only reason they can do that to her is because she didn't physically cause harm on the little girl so they aren't causing harm on her and if it had been her fiance they wouldn't have civilians come in and beat him and burn his body. While discussing Victoria and being tortured, the discussion was brought that if you were the victim's family could you forgive her? I do understand that it is easier said and not done but I also believe at some point with a little power forgiveness can be something for everyone even though half the class said no they could never forgive. You can forgive someone for anything but that doesn't mean you have to forget. Not hold a grudge or anything but use caution. Later we talked about the woman in jail, in Texas, I believe who said she was saved making her a "new person." Everyone in the class talked said something along the lines of "what if it is an excuse to not be killed" or "why should we believe her?" If that is the case, then why at any time would any police officer, detective, doctor, ect. believe a victim of any kind? I don't think you can say she is making this up or it is an excuse when a police officer's job is to do just that as if a victim of a crime just walked into his office.

In your comment regarding Victoria, I somewhat agree with it. Yes, how they were treating Victoria was more torturous than justice. However, I think that if they did it only the first day, then put her in jail, a less would be learned from the ordeal. I personally wouldn't say the system would fail. It would be a failed system if they continued to do that her every day, but if they did it my way, it could effective but situational.
I like what you said about whether or not to believe someone when society puts trust in people such as doctors, lawyers, detectives. I agree that what they are doing to Victoria is torture and is not acceptable. I also agree that doing it once isn't effective at all especially since they erase her whole memory.
