In determining whether the punishment being placed on
Victoria in the episode of white bear is serving justice, it can be quite
confusing. To ensure that something is justified, we must make sure that it is
fair, and morally acceptable.
When determining if it is fair, we can all say that Victoria
definitely deserved some type of punishment for the horrible thing she did.
Like we mentioned in class, most of us are a little more sympathetic towards
her because she was first presented to us as a victim. But, when I look at how
easily her fiancé vacated guilt by committing suicide, it leaves me feeling a
bit sketchy. I believe that if she should be punished, she should at least from
the jump know what she is being punished for. Erasing her mind makes her into a
whole new person who obviously doesn’t even know she committed this crime.
Making her relive this event is quite overboard. Also, I find it kind
of disturbing, after thinking, for people to go and purposefully watch as
entertainment. It is a bit unfair for her to repeatedly go through
this method of punishment seeing as though her fiancé did not have to, even
though he committed the bulk of the crime.
I do not believe, however, that her memory being erased
changes the certainty of what she did. If it did change then who would be
punished for the death of the little girl?
Who’s to say, that had she not been arrested and convicted, she might
not have assisted in the abduction of another child. But, when in comparison to other cases, I believe
that every individual case varies and it would be extremely hard, if not
impossible to pinpoint what exact punishment an individual might deserve or
what is truly out of bounds.
As we watched the episode, we see that this showcase will be
and ongoing thing and that the producer has no intentions on stopping this
production. There are many people that have committed crimes equal to or worse
than this but have not experienced what Victoria is going through. If this is
the future, will there be an amusement park for every crime such as this one
committed? Should we feel as though the producer is doing her a favor or that
he does not feel she deserves to die an easy death? Is justice being served
or is this just revenge? This brings us to a point of stooping down to another
individual’s level. Where is the line drawn that, this will only make it worse?
A rape for a rape. A murder for a murder. This only results in more individuals
of the same behavior.

I agree with one on the part where you stated that it was unfair for her to repeat the same day and not her fiance. What she did was wrong, but it wasn't entirely her fault. The fiance did the worst part which was actually killing the little girl. I wonder if the fiance hadn't kill himself, would the punishment be the same as hers? Like you said, I think she should know what her crime is and why she was being punished that way. By erasing her memory, they are also erasing her crime that she committed from her mind.
I like this first comment and also agree, it kind of almost isn't as beneficial as it could be because it seems in her mind shes a regular human, and thinks murder is scary. So she has no idea she actually watched and advocated in a murder, therefore, her punishment isn't doing the right job they're trying to achieve.
I agree with the fact that her receiving punishment for her fiance is unfair, however I don't really know how to feel about her receiving the punishment for herself.. What she did was pretty ugly of her, even if it was just filming this little girl's misery. But I also agree that it's unfair that she no longer knows who she is or what she has done, and that's pretty much torturing a "new" person, but who's to say they may not do it again even of they have no idea who they are anymore, you know?
