Catfiishin' Like a Pro
Cat-fishing will forever be an issue in this world because as long as we have access to the internet,it can happen time and time again but what I witnessed in the film that we watched was just awful and weird in the worst way. I believe Angela manipulated Nev and created this unhealthy atmosphere for the both of them. Not only is it crazy and awkward, to say the least, to take someone's picture off the internet and then create a fake persona and lure people into your web of lies like that but it's really unhealthy to practice that sort of lifestyle. (Ah yeah and the sexting as Meagan was just uncalled for and nasty - but still pretty funny.) I applaud Nev for having the audacity to try to intervene and assist her with this issue but I did some research to find out that even after the cameras were turned off, she insisted on STILL sending Nev emails with fake identities attached to them. (She would have more sympathy from me if she would've never lied about cancer thing because I felt her when she said that because I've lost family over that and that kinda upset tremendously.) She had to go to counseling to get to stop creating fake accounts! Now in her defense, she did get dealt a bad hand by life and she needed an outlet. She says in one of her interviews with ABC News that she actually attempted suicide. I guess we all need some type of outlet when times get rough, but some are better than others and cat-fishing wasn't the best to choose. I read that now the family has to monitor her chats and emails to ensure she doesn't do it again and she's gotten a lot better since the film was aired and her problems brought to the surface. Now people online just catfish to either be trolls or hide there appearance on social media. I personally found this out through Tinder and Instagram and its a super weird situation to find yourself in. It's like being lied to is the best way to describe it. But cat-fishing has brought light on a greater topic about online cyber security with people's information. How easy it for someone to basically still your identity based on what you post on the web? Well really simple and really hard to prove after its gone. What we do as a generation to prevent this is the near future?

In my blog post I mentioned how it's going to get harder and harder to figure out who is catfishing. I don't think you can prevent catfishing entirely. Think of it like Tinder bots. You might have already learned how to tell if it's a bot right away or maybe you haven't, but I think it's going to become a skill people develop. A catfish detecting skill is probably going to be the reality because people suck.
I agree with what you state about having sympathy for her if she had not said she had cancer because I feel like that is not something you mess or joke around with. Also, I feel like it will get harder to tell if someone is cat fishing you because people are becoming more and more experienced with it.
Yeah I don’t think she should’ve said the cancer thing. That’s not something you mess around it... it’s weird about the whole sexting thing, and that even afterwards she was still sending him emails. I agree with the comment above about it getting harder too.
