Who I am, suffers for who I was

In the Black mirror episode, "White Bear",the character Victoria wakes up in a house dazed and confused with no memory what so ever, not even her own identity. While confused, she sees this picture of this little girl in the den and assumes that the little girl is her daughter. After "connecting with the picture, she walks outside for answers but, she only walks outside to people recording her with their phones and being chased by a person with a shotgun, as well as other people who are just as worse in masks. Victoria runs across a woman who is willing to help. Victoria tells her that she wants to know where her daughter is and what all is going on. Near the end of the episode, the shooter is about to shoot Victoria's helper and Victoria makes the decision to shoot the man with his own gun but, a bullet does not come out, confetti does. Victoria is even more confused than before and is sat down in a chair and is now before a crowd of people. this group of people just laugh and ridicule her. Victoria has final reached her answer to what is really going on. Victoria recorded her husband kidnap, burn, and kill a little girl and did nothing. Even though she did not do anything first-hand to kill the little girl, she was guilty for being an active bystander. Her husband committed suicide while in jail but, Victoria did not get to escape so easily.Society still needed to punish someone for this horrid crime. Victoria went through all this being chased and worrying for herself and who she thought was her daughter because she recorded the little girl dying. she goes through this every day with no recollection of the previous day because her memory is completely erased each and every time. so, the interesting question is, " Is a criminal or an innocent being punished?" I ask this question because i believe a person is determined by his or her personality and his or her personality is determined by their past experiences and how they reacted. So, a criminal is also determined by their past experiences and reactions. If Victoria's memory is erased completely, does she not have a clean slate on life in her mind? Victoria does not know of anything she has done or experienced through her life, especially her being an accomplice in killing a little girl. In this case, an innocent person is being punished because every time her memory is wiped. she is a "born again christian" in some sight.

If anything is to be said, it would be that I like the title. When I read that, I actually thought of the episode one more time and made some small connections with an innocent person suffering. But yes, I would like to read more if you finish.
