FinU (Ryan Mabry)

Financial University

To begin with, I would like to say that this was a great presentation. It was a very relevant service to todays population. It was presented well and the presenters apperaed well versed in the product. They did a good job of engaging the audience and keeping our attention. The product in itself was a good product as well. I feel like this would be helpful to lots of students in todays society. A lot of college student need to be made aware of how to make smart financial decisions. Many college student need help making a budget. It isnt taught how to invest money and how to spend money. I feel like this service addressed this topic.
There was a lot of quality information in the presentation. They presented good quality statistics about college students and debt. I did not know that 30% of college students applied for the maximum amount of student loans. That is not good. An effort to be made to get more grants and scholarships instead of loans. Dr J. made a good point about how college is a bad financial decision. The money you spent on loans may very well not be recouped. If you drop out then you probably wont get as good a job. That leads to lower wages which means you cant pay your loans and other debts. That can trap a person in a never ending cycle of fiscal struggle. If an effort can be made to avoid that I say go for it. Also, the fact that it can take almost twenty one years on average to pay off student loans is an eye opening statistic. Many people when applying for loans may be aware of this statistic. That is why I feel that Financial University is an excellent resource. It pairs proffesionals with students.
One question I did have was as to who was providing the advice. Are these actual financial advisors or are they students? I also want to know if the college students have to pay for this service. If so, then many college students would probably not be able to afford this service. There was also an app mentioned. I would liked to have learned more about the app; or at least to have seen what it looked like. An app would probably be better for college students because they are always on their phones. All in all, I think that this was an excellent presentation of an excellent product.
